GotYourBack's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Dec 02, 17:13
- Yes, of course. I don’t believe I’ll ever give it up completely. Even when I go on to become a nurse. Aside from breathing, my massage practice is one area in my life that I have dedicated the most time to. What keeps me hooked isn’t just the craft itself. It’s the people. Being a masseur is different from other jobs, everyone’s always happy to see you. It’s not like going to the dentist. Clients come in with their smiles, looking forward to their session, and I get to work in a space that’s comfortable, familiar and relaxing. Seeing those happy faces and knowing I’m making a difference in their day is what keeps me going.
What I would miss is something I haven’t yet done. I’d like to just travel from city to city, hop around for like 2 years and see the world. I would need a little nest egg though to feel confident and trust that the work will be there. That’s the part of me that has to be in control and that seems a little out of control which I guess is why I haven’t done it. Yet.
- If there’s one thing I’d like my clients to absolutely know about me, it’s that I’m all about authenticity. I bring my true self into every interaction, whether it’s being a goofball, sharing a laugh, or diving into a deep conversation. I’m not afraid to go against the grain or risk my reputation for the sake of honesty. I believe in being real with people because that’s where genuine connections come from. When you’re with me, you’re getting someone who’s present, engaged, and always 100% himself, no matter what.
- Yes! Without a doubt!!!!
* I’ve done nearly 15,000 massages.
*I’ve worked for 2 professional hockey teams as their in-house sports massage therapist. ( GO FLYERS!!! & the Devils)
*Voted Best of Philly’ 2 years in a row. (2004, 2005)
*And, well I’ve witnessed too many happy faces who then return again and again. And it’s at this point, they are no longer clients; we have become friends.
- I’ve been a massage therapist for over two decades—22 years to be exact—and it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. In that time, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, from professional athletes to individuals seeking relief from everyday stress. Massage therapy has become more than just a career for me; it’s a way to connect with people on a deeper, more intuitive level. As for how long I’d like to continue, I see myself doing this for as long as I can. I’m sure I will cut down my schedule quite a bit once I become a nurse, but the human body and its ability to heal continues to fascinate me and I can’t imagine not ever being a part of that process.
- I travel as often as I can, but I wouldn’t say there’s a strict pattern to it—sometimes it’s spontaneous, driven by a desire to immerse myself in a new culture or landscape. I think the balance between being a traveler and a homebody is a fluid one. While there’s an undeniable thrill in discovering new places and expanding my worldview, I also deeply value the comfort and grounding presence of home. Travel feeds my curiosity, but home is where I recharge, reflect, and get inspired for the next adventure. It’s a beautiful dance between exploration and retreat.
- I had gotten hired at Philadelphia’s Premiere Day Spa at the time before I had even graduated from school. My reputation had already gotten out.
Being a Virgo, I can’t do anything half-Ass. If I know I can’t give something 100%, then I typically won’t even attempt it at all. The same energy has gone into how I approached my massage training and continue for 2 decades now. I brought my first client into the 8 X 8 room, and the perfectionist within me came in too. I CANNOT screw up, I remember repeating to myself and I knew how to make sure that I didn’t. Once the client laid face down on her stomach, I brought out and tapped to the four walls pages and pages of my notes; notes that had a complete step by step outline of the process/ sequence..
- That they feel they got a real massage from a genuine man. And that they leave saying, ‘that I will be seeing them again!’
- I’m a natural care-giver. After diving deep into the yoga world, I saw that there was a way that I could
Physically help people with my hands, and with my energy.
- They are happy they came to see me. Relaxed, cared for, and that are pleased enough to want to come back and see me again.
- Think about why it is you want to be a masseur. If your motives are genuine - u will have a beautiful, forever changing existence of growth as you facilitate others constantly into healing.
- I wouldn’t say that is necessary. It’s like anything in this world. You have it or you don’t.
Being intuitive and thoughtful and caring are you most useful tools in massage
- My training, my experience and my empathy. My determination to and bring on a beautiful experience where one can revisit and witness the beauty of awareness to oneself, their body, and their thoughts.
- I read! I love to read.
I’m a Virgo so my hobbies tend to be self-involved.
I like to go to the beach. Without my phone and without the world.
I’m comfortable in silence
