MuscleBearNYC's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Sep 24, 16:01
- When the massage is over and the client is ready to leave I want them to feel great. I want my clients to feel seen and heard. Its important to me that each client feels safe so then can be their true self. I also want them to feel very relaxed and rejuvenated. They will leave with a feeling of "floating on air"
- I don't think extensive training is necessary, but it really helped me fine tune my innate skills of touch. Lets face it, we have all had a "body rub" from someone who had no training, yeah it feels good, but a "massage" from trained hands is so different. Ahhhhh
- I love to travel. In my 30s and 40s I did a lot of world travel... Europe, South America, Caribbean, and Mexico. Lately I have been exploring the United States of America.
I do travel frequently to Fort Lauderdale, Florida
- In March of 2025 I will have 29 years a massage therapist. For the most part I have enjoyed every aspect of giving massage.
I hope to keep at it for a least another 5-10 years.
- I create a safe space. I listen to my clients and deliver the session they want. Other than that, I will keep it for my clients to experience. (wink)
- Learn good massage techniques. Make each client feel special, they deserve that. Be professional, it really helps elevate the experience. Create an safe space so the client can express themselves.
Don't loose yourself, making others feel good is draining at times. Remember self care is important.
- I had been working in the restaurant/bar business, even owned a restaurant and got burned out. I wanted make a huge change. I searched my soul and decided that I wanted to work with the human body. I first studied to be a physical trainer at a gym. This was fun but I eventually realized that I wanted to do massage. So I enrolled in massage school.
- In my spare time I like to be physical. Running is number one. Over the past 8 years I have run 3 marathons and 14 half marathons. Currently training for half #15. I also got back on a bicycle last year, been enjoying long rides.
I love being out in nature. Hiking is my favorite way to get out there and be one with nature. I have been finding trails in many of the parks in NYC and South Florida.
- When the massage is over and the client leaves I want them to feel great. I create a save space. They will feel seen, heard and totally relaxed. My clients leave with a feeling of "floating on air"
- I am a "glass half full" person. I try to see the good in people. We all have our struggles, a kind word or gesture goes a long way. I am the guy who says "good morning" or hello on the street, it makes me smile.
I definitely try to be positive with everything I do.
- I feel blessed to be a successful massage therapist. I graduated massage school in 1996. With 28 years of massaging in 4 different cities (Philadelphia, New York City, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Fort Lauderdale) I would say that I achieved success.
- I would miss the interactions with my clients, regular and new. I love helping people feel better physically and emotionally I would miss making a difference in another person's life.
- Wow, my first client.... I was living in Philadelphia back then. my first massage was an outcall. I was so nervous. I rang his doorbell, swallowed my nervousness and put on my confident face! The man was very nice, within a few minutes I had him and myself relaxed. He became a regular client, I masssage him for a few years until I moved to NYC
