Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
If I can leave some kind of impact on someone then I am a successful human being. I think the term "masseur" is limiting to the human experience. If anything I have had successful "clients" if you want to call them that though I see the term as a tad pretentious.I say that because I have had some of them lift me up when I am down so I think that has been a humbling thing to experience. Some of them intentionally lifted me up while others had no clue they added a light to a dark day because of my poker face and holding my cards close to my chest.Sometimes these things are implicit and sometimes it is more direct. I have had a mom struggling with terminal cancer and some were open to me about their own struggles with it and even pep talked my mom for me. I have been deeply touched and moved by unexpected kindness from some of these guys to the point where I had to hold back tears until after they left the session.I am only as successful as the village of people I surround myself with.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy reading books. It keeps the imagination and mind vital.I like to play table top board games and collect them.I like to have my board game miniatures professionally painted so everything is in color. I collect miniature books. I enjoy tarot cards. I work out but not sure if I consider that a hobby. I watch TV at night. Rectify,The Handmaids Tale,Enlightened,The Sopranos,The Fosters,Six Feet Under,The Queens Gambit,MAID,Sensitive Skin,Breaking Bad,After Life,The Kominsky Method,Work In Progress and Couples Therapy are among my favorites.
I listen to lots of music. I am a bit of a hipster music snob I have to say. I love PJ Harvey,Ani Difranco,Van MOrrison,Joni Mitchell,Tom Waits,Smashing Pumpkins,Josh Rouse,Vetiver,MeShell Ndegeocello,Michael Kiwanuka,Devendra Banhart,Kings Of Convenience,Hope Sandoval,Wilco,Yo La tengo and Aimee Mann to name just a few.
Im big on jazz vocalists too such as Chet Baker,Lady Blackbird,Michael Stephenson,Samara Joy,Sinne Eeg,Lucy Yeghiazaryan,Melanie de Biasio,Jimmy Scott,Shirley Horn and Diana Krall.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
No. It's intutitive. I have certifications and experience in personal training and I know the muscles and anatomy but no amount of technicality can make you successful if you can't make the connection.I don't like to come off as cerebral or austere in the sessions. It's a detachment that is too technical for me.Too cold.
