PasadenaMasseur's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Nov 07, 2023

1
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I am a big believer that everyone needs touch. I feel that the reason I've lasted so long in this business is because I'm called to it.

I want my clients to feel safe and relaxed. The session is focused on you and your needs.

2
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- I am a musician (piano and voice) and regularly play the piano at parties, receptions, special events, etc. Believe it or not, I like to play the piano at funerals. I think it really helps to create a mood where people can have a cathartic and healing experience.
Besides music, I have a regular gym habit. Also I LOVE movies and the performing arts! I attend concerts, theatre, opera and other things as often as I can afford.
I have wonderful friends and I'm also close with some of my family.
And I am a dedicated, practicing secular Buddhist.

3
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- After the first appointment, I hope they feel like they made a good choice and their money was well spent.

4
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- I love to travel ! If money were no object, I would take a domestic trip every other year, and a foreign trip every other year.

In 2016 I walked alone about 120 miles when I did the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. Definitely an adventure!

5
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- Not necessarily. I think a caring touch and a simple massage can be very therapeutic. Also, even though I had a lot of training in the beginning, I also learned a lot by getting massage from a couple of real pros.

6
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- More than 20+ years now. I think I'll keep at it until I'm ready to retire. Even then, I could still see myself keeping a few regular clients as long as I'm physically able.

7
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- I would want someone considering it to be clear about why they're pursuing massage. If you are just looking for a quick buck, I would advise against it. This is a JOB just like any other, and requires you to be an organized, professional, conscientious adult.

But if you feel called to be a healer and a sane, calming influence in this crazy world then, by all means, check out being a massage therapist.

8
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- Well... to begin with, I've been doing massage for a long time because I enjoy it and my clients have been very loyal all these years.

Also, I endeavor to be a good person and people respond to that.

9
Why did you become a Masseur?

- It seemed like a really concrete, practical way to alleviate stress and bring comfort and sanity to my clients. So many people are starved for touch, and massage is a wonderful way to fulfill that need.

10
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- I would like them to feel refreshed and relaxed, like they'd had a mini-vacation.

11
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- YES! Massage has been my main job for many years. There have been ups and downs, based on the economy but, overall, massage has been very good to me.

12
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- I don't know if I would use the word "addictive" but it can be very gratifying! If I stopped doing massage I would miss it for sure.

13
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- When I first started doing massage, it was as a weekly volunteer at an in-patient hospice. I saw that patient a few times before he passed away. Yes, I definitely remember him and all the other people I met there.

After a year or so of doing massage as a volunteer, I was laid off from my corporate job due to a merger and started advertising my massage practice as a way to make money until I found another job. In a few months I realized I had a practice going and never looked back.
