Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I most definitely would miss being a masseur. The wonderful people I have met. The solid connections, relationships and friends I have obtained through massage. The traveling, the feeling I get knowing I really helped someone feel better in the so many ways that we as Masseurs do. I can go on and on about the things I would miss but most of all I would miss a chance meeting with you...my next client.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like my clients to feel free from built up stress and tension after a massage with me. I'm often told by my clients that my massage is as close to an out of body experience they have ever had and ask for a few minutes after the massage just to return to a conscious awareness and to return to reality. Litterally taking my clients to other places, inducing an out of mind and body experience is my ultimate compliment.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
My advice would be to just be prepared. We meet all kinds of people and are put in all kinds of situations which requires you to be a quick thinker, and above average people person with above average social skills. Also it's not all rose petals and cotton candy. When you're doing six or seven massages a day which is what I like to do when I'm out of town on a massage trip it wears you out. It is a physically demanding job and the hours if you are like me are crazy. I don't like to turn away clients so I may have my first one at 9:00 a.m. and I may have my last one at 2:00 a.m. but I found doing this puts me in a whole different text bracket. And the last thing I would tell someone just starting out or wanting to start out is just have fun and definitely know how to give an outstanding massage. I know I don't want to be known as just a rub and tug like so many. Just have fun and remember in your massage room you're in control.
