ProHands's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I do remember my first client. He was a gentleman from Chicago. It being his first massage as well as mine. Finding this out made me feel much more relaxed and comfortable for being my first massage. I do know that that 90 minutes is a blur but I must have done something right because he came back and saw me 7 times in 13 days. LOL true story
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I'm often asked what sets me apart from other masseurs. I answer this question from feedback of my clients. Besides being as professional, consistent, reliable and laidback as they come I possess a natural calming, relaxed and comfortable to be around quality. A warm and inviting ora with relaxing and healing properties. An ability to find problem areas and areas that need special attention along with the energy pushing and healing properties to really zone in on and relieve, work out those issues. I'm a profectionist who isn't afraid to work as hard as needed for each and every client. Another quality that I believe sets me apart is the ability to treat every client the same and look at them all as if they were a perfect 10. I do not turn away clients as long as they are respectful based on age, color, ***ual orientation, their body weights or conditions they may have. I believe everyone deserves the same treatment it is entitled to the same massage as my favorite client. I have found that many people who are turned away for whatever Reasons by other massage therapists can turn out to be some of my best repeat clients. I welcome all and all are welcome.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like my clients to feel free from built up stress and tension after a massage with me. I'm often told by my clients that my massage is as close to an out of body experience they have ever had and ask for a few minutes after the massage just to return to a conscious awareness and to return to reality. Litterally taking my clients to other places, inducing an out of mind and body experience is my ultimate compliment.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Some of my hobbies include playing all types of sports, softball, basketball, tennis, ect. I have a need to be close to water in my daily life. I have a passion for all things water. I am a true water sign being a Cancer and it reflects in my personality and daily life. Swimming, kayaking, boating, skiing, tubing, fishing, diving ect..ect..all a necessity in my life. Without water there is no life.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I'm a homebody by nature. I enjoy the comfort and familiarity of my layer. On the other hand I travel at least once a month tending to my established clients in my established cities for work but always keeping one eye open to potential new cities, client base and opportunities. Resilient is my middle name.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
Well not many know this but I'm a very multifaceted, very deep and layered person with many talents and interests. Multiple degrees and multiple business success stories in my past. Once I have a vision and a goal I will eat,, breathe and sleep my vision until I manafest my goal into my reality.I'm an extroverted introvert. One thing I don't lack is passion and drive to be the best at everything I do. A true profectionist with a hard outer shell to protect what I really am on the inside. We will leave what that is for some mystery.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I'm often asked why I became a masseur. My main reason was because massage gave me an outlet. An outlet to use my inherent natural feeling and healing energy and abilities to help other people. Also, it allows me to use my highly intuitive nature on a different level.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
When my clients massage is over my ultimate compliment is them needing a few extra minutes to return from the out of body out of mind experience the just had. Taking my clients to places they have rarely or never been before. They describe our massage experience as being near or total out of body experience. All of my clients leave free from built up stress and tension with a smile.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I most definitely would miss being a masseur. The wonderful people I have met. The solid connections, relationships and friends I have obtained through massage. The traveling, the feeling I get knowing I really helped someone feel better in the so many ways that we as Masseurs do. I can go on and on about the things I would miss but most of all I would miss a chance meeting with you...my next client.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a full time Male4Maie Masseur for 2 years. About the time covid hit I had just began this wonderful journey of Male Massage as a full time career. Although I went to school for massage 15 years ago and have given hundreds of Rubs I have now found my knitch. I hope to continue massage up into my 70's if I can! It my passion refound and I am out to massage the world at least once,.......then I got ya
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Do I consider myself a successful masseur? I would have to answer yes to that. Although I've only been doing this full time for a few years I am able to do this full time and it be my only job. But most of all I find myself successful because of all of the people who I know I have touched and who have touched me. I've made a difference in people's lives, in the way people feel about themselves as well as their self-confidence. I also have helped them therapeutically, emotionally, mentally and physically as each client is different. Not only am I a masseur, I am open ears to some, just someone they can talk to that will listen. I am a friend too many, we laugh , we joke , we play.. Etc I am a Healing Hands too many, as they have not been touched in years in any type of way. We all know touch does us all so good in so many ways. I can go on and on about the relationships I have formed through massage and all of the different types of relationships I formed. The bottom line is I've met a lot of wonderful people and to me that in itself is greater than success.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
My advice would be to just be prepared. We meet all kinds of people and are put in all kinds of situations which requires you to be a quick thinker, and above average people person with above average social skills. Also it's not all rose petals and cotton candy. When you're doing six or seven massages a day which is what I like to do when I'm out of town on a massage trip it wears you out. It is a physically demanding job and the hours if you are like me are crazy. I don't like to turn away clients so I may have my first one at 9:00 a.m. and I may have my last one at 2:00 a.m. but I found doing this puts me in a whole different text bracket. And the last thing I would tell someone just starting out or wanting to start out is just have fun and definitely know how to give an outstanding massage. I know I don't want to be known as just a rub and tug like so many. Just have fun and remember in your massage room you're in control.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I actually do have extensive training. I did go to school for this and did get certified as a licensed massage therapist. Most people on rent masseur.com have not had schooling or professional training but are still excellent masseurs. So no extensive training is not necessary although it does not hurt and when it comes to therapeutic massage I would recommend training. You're only as good as you push yourself to be.
