ShadesMassage's Massage Interview
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I have actually attempted to leave my "Masseur Days" behind a few times, only to quickly come to my senses and realize this is one of the best jobs anyone could have and start over like no hiatus ever happened. I now realize that this is more than a mere job, it is a lifestyle and a philosophy. One that I only want to keep improving upon so I never look back and feel regret that I didn't continue it.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want them to feel impressed (both figurately and literally), relived, and having had their expectations blown away. I want every one of them to feel like I made a difference in their day and/or week. I want them to feel lighter than when they first looked upon my ad.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I personally would say yes. I have been doing this professionally for over a decade now and the time just flew by. It is hard to believe I have been doing anything as long as I have been doing this, but knowing that I have helped hundreds of clients feel inner joy and peace makes me feel more successful every year. I know I have made a little difference in many people's lives.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I produce podcasts and video projects, edit books, and attend a LOT of music events. I write fictional stories and devour almost every streaming series I can get my eyes on. I also do a ton of yoga to keep my body up and running between massages. I also enjoy learning about cryptocurrencies and the stock market.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I try to travel several times a year. My goal is to be able to travel more often and offer massages all over the nation and maybe several different countries. Doing massage in Arizona is always wonderful, but I also want to see who else would appreciate my services in places you would never expect.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a masseur now for almost 11 years (yes, it is hard to believe I am actually writing that). I don't see any end in sight if I have anything to say about it. Being a masseur has given more value, excitement, and meaning to my life than any typical day or night job I've ever had.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Tough question. I think it depends on the person. I know many masseurs who are always in demand and have no training. I myself was very successful at being a masseur immediately without almost any formal training. That went on for years until my body and mind got bored of the "same old thing" and began wanting more interesting and exotic techniques to satisfy the clients. Now that I have been working extensively to improve my techniques with workshops, certification programs, and classes, I can say I would recommend getting as much training as you can afford. Experiment and attempt obscure and rare techniques no one else is offering. You and your clients will be much more satisfied and likely to call you back if you offer something competent and unique than if you are just "winging it" and relying only on your looks to get business.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Like they've had a life-changing experience that will make them wonder why they had to wait so long to experience it.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I am more than just a body and a face. I have a mind and an indomitable spirit. I also have a goofy sense of humor and am quite witty.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Get lots of training and get certified in something if you can. It doesn't matter where or how you start out or if you have a negative experience or two with a client. Keep doing it if you feel a hunger and desire to improve and pursue it to the best of your ability. Surpass all of your expectations and become the best you could ever imagine yourself as. Then, keep growing and never look back. Oh, and always take your vitamins and drinks lots of bottled water. That never hurts your sessions.
