TyMitchell's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Nov 17, 2021
- I used to travel pretty often, especially for my film work. But since COVID I've definitely turned my focus toward my home life and building my own sanctuary here in the city. I hope to travel more in the near future, but I still feel a little rusty!
- I hope that anyone I spend any kind of time with feels heard and understood. With massage, that doesn't necessarily happen verbally, but I think it should still feel that way.
- I do a lot of reading, writing, and working out. I'm also sort of addicted to shopping for home goods.
- Sometimes I wish I had a more steady flow of clients, as I think all of us do. But I think "success" has more to do with how much we're broadening and deepening how we engage with the world. As a masseur, I've found success simply by providing relief, relaxation, intimacy, or groundedness to any of my clients. Kind of a pageant answer, but it's a way more generative way to look at being "successful"!
- I do! I actually continue to see him, and it's been wonderful working together over the years.
To be honest, I first decided to be a masseur because I was exhausted with working in offices or restaurants while working on my creative career. A good friend of mine in the business suggested I try massage. I never expected that I would learn so much about the body and the power of physical touch, but I quickly found that I really enjoyed holding that kind of space with all different kinds of people and their bodies. It's been a great journey for me that's opened my mind tremendously, and I'm so grateful for all the friendships I've made along the way!
