WaldoCMT's Massage Interview
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would! I enjoy both the ability to feel like I'm helping people to overcome pain and discomfort in their bodies, and the freedom that my schedule gives me to travel and take time off work as needed.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I would hope that they feel relaxed, and pain free.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
It depends on your definition of success. There are plenty of guys on this site who make money from being young and cute, but the quality of massage they provide is not very good. They may be successful financially. I don't consider myself a success if I'm not helping my clients to overcome their pain and stress, so I'm glad that I went through the difficult (but wonderful) process of massage school and actually becoming a licensed massage therapist.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
It really depends. In DC area, I travel within about 5-10 miles of home in order to see clients. I try to leave this part of the country at least a few times a year, though.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been doing this full time since 2012. I will probably go back to school to do occupational or physical therapy, but I imagine this will be part of my practice for a long time.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to dance! I find great freedom in being able to move around like a crazy person. =)
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I am a professional and would like to be treated as such. I'm perfectly happy to be polite with you, but this is not a date and I'm not here to be objectified by you. I understand what SOME massage therapists use this site to advertise for, but I can assure you that my massage is 100% professional, therapeutic deep tissue work. If you contact me looking for a date or anything else, you will be promptly turned away. =)
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Keep your body strong, and keep your mind strong. Take breaks as needed, and listen to your body. If you overdo it, you will get injured and that is more frustrating than you know when your job is physical.
Clients are also hard to deal with some times. It's important to not let them get to you or you'll start taking it out on other clients, and that's not fair.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I'm licensed, and talented. I'm not just a pretty face, and I'm here to help!
