jake_deckard's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
My first massage client was actually an ****** client that wanted a massage. I was 22 years old. He loved what I was doing and suggested I look at massage school. I went to The Swedish Institute the next day and enrolled. I graduated a year later.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I've been doing this 25 years, and my career has seen many different versions. I will always do massage. Even when Im 70. Regardless of whatever other job I am doing.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Possibly one of the most successful actually. I say that because I know my place in the history of erotic massage. I was there at the beginning of the internet and I helped define how business is conducted. In those days there wasn't a template on how to get clients. I worked hard to figure out how the service should look and what clients should expect.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
One thing to know is that I love my work, my craft, and my clients. I've been lucky enough to put together an amazing group of men and I'm always excited to see what the day will bring.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
You know that calm feeling when you're at peace with the world and it feels like your have soft cotton in your brain? Like that.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
25 years man. LOL. And I'll be doing it until Im in the ground.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I think so. And experience is everything. You can't possibly know until you've put in the time.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Im an artist. I do photography mostly. I also write.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
My level of experience. I've been around since the days of pagers and print ads. I've seen it all and recreated my business and upped the ante each time.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Never undercut other masseurs. It's not sustainable and you won't last long. Charge your worth and work hard to uphold the value of your work.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Damn that was better than I expected. Awesome.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I was working bi-coastal between LA and NYC for years. Now I am in St Louis. Frankly, I am appreciating the break from moving around. I have a whole apartment rented just for massage and my art studio. I'm only here for a year or so so Im gonna enjoy being a homebody.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I just always have. The first time I tried to get into massage school, I was 16. They wouldn't let me until I was 18. Once I graduated, I worked at a gym for a few months, and realized all the guys wanted one thing I couldn't do at a gym. So I put out an ad, raised my rates and I've been at it ever since. During that time I've been married twice, had a porn career, and later a production studio, lived in several major cities, and got a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Now I take photos. But massage, it's always my thing.
