JoshSherridan's Massage Interview
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I am a classy person. Please treat me as such. Cheap service is not good and good service is not cheap. I come from a background of over 12 years in multi-level retail management... and from working in a failing company, I know why they failed... they forgot to focus on the customer and deliver quality to match the price. That's why my rates are set at what they are.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel here and there. I love it when I go, but I always get homesick after a while. I am ALWAYS excited to come home to Minnesota!! :D
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
...that they got what they paid for. When VALUE meets COST, it's a beautiful thing.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
You can train a monkey to give a massage... the actual experience is so much more than that. It's about understanding energy as well. It's a complete experience that ties into the massage. Having a friend give you a rub that feels good is one thing... getting a professional massage is completely different. Know the difference and don't settle paying for the lesser.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
My very first client ended up being someone I worked with at my very first job when I was a freshman in high school. I hadn't seen her in over 10 years, yet we remembered each other. It made the massage a lot more comfortable and I wasn't super tense.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Considering that when I was booked 5 weeks out when I worked at a spa and now continue to have a steady clientele... yeah, I would consider myself successful.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want them to feel better after the massage then they did walking in. Now, that doesn't mean that you're not sore sometimes, especially when we do DEEP TISSUE sports massage, but it's always a "hurt so good"... kinda like the song, lol!
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I gym a couple times a week.
I love biking and hiking during warmer weather.
I absolutely LOVE to go out for karaoke!!
I crochet and watch Game of Thrones...
I also love wine and bonfires... separately or together.
You may catch me playing XBOX here and there...
...and occasionally I disc golf!
Why did you become a Masseur?
Massage has been transformative in my life. Also, I've always had a flare for anything artistic. The two combined are a perfect match for me to be a massage therapist.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
On here, I am actually certified in Massage Therapy. What's also really cool is that I have a certificate/license in Esthiology (skin care... facials/waxing/makeup) as well. So, I am passionate enough to get as much education as I can to better serve you.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been at this 4 years now and will do it for the foreseeable future!!
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I'd say so... to an extent. You can train a monkey to give a massage... or you can go and buy a contraption from your local Walmart to give you a massage. BUUUUUT... the true experience comes from someone who was born to do it. That instinct and genuine intuition... they have "the touch".
One of my educators also reminded everyone frequently that the minute you think that you're done learning is the minute you fail yourself and your clients. I 110% agree with that philosophy and hold it in the highest regard.
