KneadByMavin's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I do remember, I was so nervous, because I’m always trying to do the best that I can. I wanted to make sure that I impressed the client. So when I’m nervous, I just start cracking jokes, and making a fool of myself. Luckily, he was a jokster as well, and he told me k was doing great. He let me know that as long as I continue to be sincere, that the clients would love me.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would miss the masseur days, hopefully they down end soon. I need to vibe and connect with people in rder for me to be fulfilled every day. I come from the hospitality industry, so taking care of people is in my DNA
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I would say that I am, because I have a way of connecting with people, I can be in any setting and can talk about anything in the world whether I’m telling my he story or if they are. I love to know about other views and perspectives. I’m a total nerd when it comes to that, and I always have questions
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I would tell them that I grew up on a farm, and we moved to Vegas from one day to the next. So I can relate to most people whether from a small town or big city. In the small town that I grew up in, gay wasn’t something that existed. And when you moved to the city, I was afraid to come out. It then when I finally did, it was freeing. So, what I would say to you clients is that you have a safe and comfortable environment, free of judgment whenever I’m around. I will always stand up for the underdog.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
My hope is that they all leave here happy, like they were able to relax and forget about the problems for a moment and go on that spiritual journey with me. All I want is for me to have made a difference In their lives whether big or small, but at least have done something that would make them smile
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a nerd, as I’ve already mentioned. I love to learn new things, I’m so curious about everything. I’ve become a handyman recently, and I like to take on different jobs. I consider myself a jack of all trades, and the more knowledge I have, the more I feel like I thrive
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
You must be able to connect with people, a massage is so much more than applying pressure to muscles. It’s a spiritual journey where people seek you out to be their guide. It’s very rewarding if you are genuine and truly care
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
2 years, and I’d love to continue, no end in sight. Even if I were to find a different job, I’d still do this on the side
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I love to travel, but I’m also a homebody. Tough question, but I love both. I miss home when I’m away and I miss traveling when I’m home
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
It’s not extensive training if your heart is in it. If you have the passion for it, it won’t seem like a job. I think success is more than just training, it’s reliant on how you make another individual feel. Some things cannot be taught.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I’d say that we all have our way of doing things, so we are all unique in that sense. I feel what distinguishes me though is the life that I’ve lived. Where I came from, where I am, and where I am going. I’ve lived a life in which not many could related. Through the good and the bad, I’ve always considered myself to be the “against all odds…he made it.” Type of individual. Having grown up an orphan since I was 9 years old, I had to face a lot, but that is what makes me so strong today.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I want them to leave and think “I can’t wait until my next appointment with Eddie Mavin.
I want to know that I helped them, whether big or small, I was there for them.
Why did you become a Masseur?
Because, I’m a man, and me being a man, I know what it is that I like, and how I like it. I can share that with my clients. I wanted out of the restaurant industry and this was my foot in the door to the massage world.
Hospitality is something that’s in my dna. I will always be of service to people.
