AdamLamb's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Oct 03, 00:06
- For some, probably. Others can go a long way based on intuition.
- I don't travel much anymore. I lived in Europe, and used to tour a lot with massage. I've got so much going on at home these days that it takes a lot for me to leave the Hudson Valley.
- About 7 years now! How time flies.. I think I'll keep doing it as long as it makes sense physically. It's hard work!
- Honestly? Because it pays the damn bills! Well, that was certainly a perk at first. I've come to love it, and my clients are like family to me now.
- I'm a web developer, really interested in decentralized orgs and building better decision making tools. I also play pickleball, guitar, and am a photographer.
- I love jiu jitsu and wrestling!
- That depends on what they need and want on any given day. If they're coming to me in the AM and have a long day of work ahead of them I wouldn't mash them into a puddle. If it were a quiet Sunday evening and they just wanted to get a nice massage, drink some whiskey and go to bed I would be happy to puddle-fy. :)
- In my work I try to reach people on a human level. Whether they admit it or not, each client has an emotional history that has left an imprint on their body. I consider it my job to get a clear picture of that imprint and unravel it with them. I've had many massages where it seems like the masseur was going through the motions, just doing their job to make a buck and go home. That approach is fine if you're checking groceries, but a person like that has no business in front of a massage table.
- Pay attention to the reaction of your client. We all accidentally glide across a sensitive nerve or tickle a foot once in a while. The difference between me and a lot of masseurs is that I wouldn't do it twice.
- I just want people to get to know themselves better. I consider my work a collaborative effort, where we find trouble spots and learn how to understand the causes of the tension and how to prevent it, not just treat it. Again, my background in movement therapy helps a lot.
- Yes. I love what I do and I can be picky about my clientele. I'm successful and privileged and very grateful for the blessings in my life.
- I would be very sad if I couldn't help people heal their bodies. Daily yoga and body-weight-fitness exercises will hopefully prevent such a fate.
- It all started when one of my regular yoga clients asked me to give him a short massage after one of our sessions. He loved it and it became a regualar thing. I started offering it to my yoga clients exclusively, training on friends, watching YouTube videos and paying attention while getting massaged at the best places I could find. I'm a quick study, and am so happy that I was invited to discover this passion!
