AustinDeepLMT's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Apr 29, 2021
- Relaxed and relieved from the pain or stress they had before the appointment. I want then to be so happy that they want to return and also refer their friends, family and coworkers to me.
- While training helps provide the knowledge and skills needed to be successful, it is not everything. The desire to listen, learn and adapt skills to your client's needs is equally important.
- I'm probably more of a homebody to date, but now that I have more free time I plan to expand my travels.
- I'm a former major in the U.S. Army Reserves where I served 15 years. I also worked in state government for 23 years. My passion and long-term goal, however, has always been to do massage therapy full-time and I'm finally able to do that now.
- I have 24 years of experience, and I believe that deep yet intuitive pressure is the key to providing muscle relief.
- Seek a good massage therapy school that offers continuing education and training. Seek feedback constantly from others while in training and from your clients throughout your career. Like the medical field, one "practices" massage because therapists should always be trying to improve their massage skills.
- Since I've been doing it for more than 24 years, I have no doubt that I'm successful at it.
- It is true massage therapy can be addictive because I feel good about making others happy. However, time off is necessary as I put a lot into my work and even a therapist should practice self-care.
- I was searching for a career that I could be passionate about when I made the decision. Massage is the only job I've had where I receive compliments and appreciation from EVERY customer.
- I like to spend time with my pup (spaniel / poodle mix), swim, bike, cook, watch movies. Now that I have more free time, I plan to do more traveling as well as exploring Austin and central Texas on day trips.
- I've been a practicing massage part-time (evenings and weekends) since 1996. In 2020, I expanded my hours to full time. I plan on doing massage as long as the work I do continues to help those I have the pleasure of working on.
- Most of the clients I work on need relief from pain or an escape from daily stress. I listen to my clients needs and I'm fairly intuitive as well. My hope is that every customer returns for more because they value and appreciate the session(s) we've had.
- 25 years ago, I was laid off from my full-time job. I went to work for the Army reserves full-time while I looked for a permanent position. A week later I had a serious rollover car accident. After a week in the hospital and months of therapy, I went to work at a health spa in Santa Fe as a management intern. After some soul-searching, I took a Hawaiian (Lomi Lomi) massage class. I then became much more interested in the calming nature of massage rather than stressful spa management, so when I returned to Austin I enrolled in the massage therapy certification course. Getting laid off was devastating and I wanted to be able to fall back on something else in case that ever happened again. I also wanted to transition out of the Army and massage therapy was a way to make that happen financially. Ultimately, it was the ability to help others and get instant positive feedback about my work that led me to this field. It’s a great feeling after every massage, even after 20 years.
