AustralianLucas's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Oct 02, 09:42

1
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- I’ve done a lot more training than most massage therapists I’ve met. I also come from a very varied background of physical activities. I did karate for eight years. I was a professional dancer for twelve years. I’ve been a personal trainer since 2011. I’ve done a lot of gymnastics and yoga and Pilates and swimming. I really understand how the body works from a practical point of view. I’m also a very tactile person. I’m strong and very intuitive with my hands.

2
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- Again, it depends on the style of massage and their reason for coming to me in the first place. Remedial massage doesn’t feel great a lot of the time, but its purpose is to work on existing issues in the body. If it helps to improve some of those issues, then it’s been successful (but not necessarily relaxing). If someone wants to just feel good and not address any specific issues, then the entire experience should feel great and they should leave feeling amazing.

3
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- For remedial/sports/deep tissue/trigger point/ and many other styles of massage, absolutely. For relaxation, sensual, erotic massage, I think it’s more important to have good instincts and be able to understand individual client needs and have the ability to adapt to each person being treated.

4
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- Both. When I’m in a place, I like having my routine and feeling at home. I also love new adventures and travelling to new places.

5
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- I started massaging in 2013 and I don’t think that I will be stopping any time soon. I love it. I love the sense of physical connection that massage offers.

6
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- Go to a very good school and study as many styles and techniques as possible. Get massages from as many (good) massage therapists as possible. Regularly go to see chiropractors, physiotherapists, and osteopaths in order to better understand the differences between the modalities and gain better insight into different types of bodywork. Listen to your clients’ needs and get constant feedback during and after the massage.

7
Why did you become a Masseur?

- I was working as a personal trainer and I thought that the two careers would work well together (which they do).

8
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- I study languages. I dance. I sing. I love being outdoors. I love animals. I love learning new things in general. I go to the gym. I love to travel.

9
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- It depends on the type of massage. I’d definitely want them to feel differently than they felt beforehand.

10
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I appreciate bluntness. Nothing shocks or offends me. I like people to be direct. Life is too short to waste time.

11
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- Absolutely. Before leaving Sydney I had a lot of regular clients and always worked as much as I was prepared to work each day. I was never worried about not having enough clients.

12
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- I really did miss working during Covid lockdowns. I miss the social aspect and being able to help someone and connect with them in some way.

13
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- I honestly don’t remember my first client. It would have been during massage college at the school clinic. It was over a decade ago though.
