BlackLightning's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Apr 13, 2019

1
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- i believe in holistic well-being. Massage is more than interacting with a physical body that needs "fixing". i use massage and energy work to connect and engage with the body, mind, and spirit; to help awaken the Source of well-being which i believe is always present within each of us; to share pure sensation which allows us to be more Present and appreciate the gift of life. i deeply believe we are all healers and i share massage to inspire/awaken that seed within.

2
Why did you become a Masseur?

- i've done a lot of intense social justice work over the years which helped me realize how important it is to be the change that i want to see which meant learning how to love (beyond societal conditioning). This inspired my passion for healing especially as i began to recognize the impact of the amount of trauma so many of us experience--trauma can store itself in the physical body. i initially began massage to make it more accessible to marginalized communities, esp. BIPOC communities. i try to share community massages (pay as you can) whenever i am able and i am willing to discuss this matter with anyone who reaches out with genuine intentions. Sharing massage is another way i share love.

3
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- i live in the land of the erotic. To me, the erotic is defined by our ability to feel and enjoy sensation; like love, it can be experienced and expressed in many different ways. The erotic is a physical gift that allows me to be wholeheARTedly Present. with oneness of self. and appreciative of the gift of physical life. i often speak about how the erotic is misunderstood and mistaken for the superficial in our society. i fight to reclaim it's power!

4
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- Well, i had been sharing massage with other professional dancers for some time but i will still never forget how nervous (and excited) i was to have my first professional "client". Thankfully my profession teaches me how to remain focused and be mindfully engage even with my nerves. My first client was so sweet and went out of his way to make me feel welcomed in his home. It was a beautiful experience. (Btw, my nerves disappeared the moment i physically connected with him which put me into a trance.)

5
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- i'm an heARTist (professional dancer) and my life/lens is centered around art. Other interests include:

Nature. Food. Reading. Laughing. Writing. Metaphysics. Love. Spirituality. Tantra. Spending quality time with friends. Cuddling. Yoga.

And i LOVE rollercoasters.

6
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- i travel a great deal because of my work as a professional dancer. i love traveling almost as much as i love being home. i live for adventure and exploration but i also enjoy the feeling of being rooted. i truly believe home is where the heart is and so, home follows me wherever i venture.

7
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- Remain true to intention and follow intuition. Also, creating boundaries and having your own self-care routine is important. As masseurs, we interact and engage with many different energies which we unconsciously take on. It's helpful to have a practice or way to release all of that.

8
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- To me, success is defined as the ability to be Present which is always my intention when sharing body/energy work so that i can create an optimal experience for myself and the client. i am thankful to share in this capacity and i have had many heartfelt connections with clients who have expressed how transcending and enabling our experiences have been together. That, to me, is success.

9
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- Honestly, viewing massage as a form of communication, i feel like i've been a masseur most of my life. i've always been passionate about sharing touch and creating relaxation. However, over the last two years, as i think critically about my voice/truth/gifts and how that impacts Earth, i've channeled this understanding into a massage/energetic experience. i want to continue sharing as long as i am able.

10
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- As a professional dancer, i view technique as a tool to maximize idea and potential. Understanding massage techniques will enable and create deeper connections (because of understanding), but the technique can only take one as far as one's vision/passion/love.

11
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- Peaceful. Alive. Relaxed. Free.

12
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- i am deeply passionate about massage and i don't see myself ever not sharing this gift as long as i am physically able.

13
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- Peaceful. Relaxed. Rejuvenated.
