BlissfulTouch's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Jul 12, 2022
- For years, I lived out of a 40L backpack. I'm more settled now, but take off on weekend trips pretty regularly.
- My teachers. I was trained from curriculum designed by the monks of Wat Pho in Thailand.
Our training was combined with yoga, meditation, and a restricted diet.
I learned to understand the flow of the breath (Prana) through the body, and how to use it to the advantage. Synchronizing my breathing with my client and reciting mantras in my head whilst practicing keeps me in a wonderful flow state.
- Absolutely I do! They were a medical doctor and I was so nervous!!! However, it went really well and they tipped me nearly my entire rate. I was so excited! They were a regular for about 8 months afterwards!
- Absolutely. My clients always leave satisfied. I love getting messages hours later about how they 'feel great!' or the next day how they 'Slept like a baby!'
- I've been a Masseur on and off for 7 years. I don't think I'll ever stop. It is something I was put here to do, and it stopped being 'work' for me long ago.
- I think a strong foundational education is important, but I don't think it needs to he extensive.
As times goes on, you will develop your style and learn new techniques from other therapists.
It's a largely intuitive practice, but there are real things to consider, such as knowledge of human anatomy and how to work with injuries.
- Do some sort of school or course.. you need to learn basic anatomy so you don't injure your clients.
Secondly, listen to your client, and encourage them to speak to their needs. If they want more or less of something. The last thing you want is a client to be uncomfortable, and not say anything!
- Simple. I love to make people feel good. There is nothing more sacred than using your body and energy to help another person feel better.
Massage is such an intimate interaction, I love being able to facilitate it and take time to ensure all of the senses are indulged.
- I am fascinated by people, culture, and food. I've traveled for years out of a backpack through Europe and SE Asia and fell in love with the lesser known nuances of the world.
- I actually stopped for a while, had a friend request a massage, and I ended up buying a whole new setup and starting it back up... This time as a passionate job I do for joy, not as a source of primary income. It has changed my experience and allowed me to fully immerse myself into my clients needs.
