DeonScott's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Feb 04, 2022
- Personally I wouldn’t consider myself a successful Masseur, I am successful in a lot of other avenues of my life. However when it comes to Massage, I know other masseurs who receive four times as many clients as I do so sometimes it challenges my thought process as to what I’m doing wrong or what I could do better. Which causes me to think I’m not “successful” compared to my Peers. However I do love the fact that I have 30 Five Star reviews and counting. Every client that I’ve had has enjoyed the experience and 82% of my clientele are repeat customers so in that regard I am thankful that the clients that do book me enjoy what I offer. And that’s success enough.
- Physical touch is one of my love languages. And I would always give my boyfriends massages. While in University a classmate was saying how he made $50+ an hour at Massage Envy. As a starving art student, that was working retail, that sounded amazing. So did research, took some courses, got certified and started working at Massage Envy. It helped me pay for majority of my higher education.
- I put myself in the clients shoes. Even in the decision of where I live I make sure it is a place that will be easily accessible to my clients. I don’t cook on days that I plan to be available for massage because I don’t want my apartment smelling like food. I purchased black out curtains and always have candles to create more of an atmosphere. I keep my place clean and tidy so that way the client feels comfortable. I don’t go out often so that way I don’t expose my clients to COVID-19 or other potential sicknesses. I spent an extra two hundred dollars on a nicer more plush massage table to make sure that the client is comfortable. I spray the place down with Febreze before every client to make sure that it is fresh upon entering. I keep bottled water in the fridge and offer it to every single client. And all of this to list just a few things that I do to consistently make sure that I provide the best possible experience.
- I’ve been doing massage since 2016 / 17 professionally. On RM since 2018. And I’ll continue to do massage as long as I have clients and a flexible schedule.
- To me it’s not so much “extensive training” (even though that does help) , I feel it’s more so about care. You can have all the training in the world but give a horrible massage because you don’t care. But you can have no technical training and care so much that you learn and grow with every experience. Care makes the largest difference.
- Being a creative, I like to do anything that’s expressive, from cooking, to dancing, painting or sewing. I like to keep Myself busy.
