El_Massage's Massage Interview
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I will absolutely miss my masseur days. I get so much pleasure from giving an excellent massage. The client's gratitude makes it worthwhile and energizes me.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I enjoyed giving massages to my lovers even before I had any training. When I uprooted and moved to NYC I decided I no longer wanted to work for someone else so I got educated and trained and developed a massage style that I think benefits most people. I love the flexibility working for myself gives me.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I play and watch tennis, play beach volleyball on occasion, and Words With Friends daily.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I would say I'm successful. I have many satisfied clients and enough work to pay the bills.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been a masseur for 8 years and plan on doing this until I'm no longer physically able. It's a good workout and helps keep me fit.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I think one should have a general knowledge of anatomy and massage strokes/techniques, but extensive training isn't a must. One can self train by reading massage books, watching instructional videos and doing trades with a good pro (who gives honest critique) to find out what feels good.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
You should love the work. Read massage books, watch instructional videos, do trades with a good pro, get honest feedback, find out what feels good to you and try to do it for others.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want a client to leave feeling better -- rejuvenated, in less pain, more flexible, more connected to his body, energized -- than he did when he arrived.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like a client to leave feeling like he's been pampered, nurtured and touched physically, mentally and emotionally.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel relatively often (Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, NYC and Mexico, mostly), but when I'm home I'm a homebody.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I'm not very chatty, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in learning about you.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I don't know that I'm all that different from every other guy in this line of work. I value the work. My clients get a relaxing, therapeutic, spa-quality massage.
