ErikSpadeMasseur's Massage Interview
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want me clients to leave feeling completely relaxed letting their stress melt away.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I’ve been doing massage for 5 years. It’s something I enjoy doing and have been told I have the gift of touch. Since I’m also a personal trainer I see myself doing massage for awhile.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy working out and am an avid runner. I’m a personal trainer so I’m a bit obsessed with health and fitness. When I’m not working out I enjoy binge watching TV shows, going for runs outside when the weather is nice or going to the movies. I’m a pretty simple guy.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I’m originally from California but recently moved to Dallas from NYC. I’m a big city guy but am enjoying the slower pace that Dallas offers. I used to go out a lot but these days I tend to be more of a homebody.
I also work as a personal trainer and I’m passionate about helping others achieve their fitness goals. It’s rewarding to challenge people and push them out of their comfort zone and watch them succeed.
I’m pretty easy-going and very patient. When I’m not working out or running I’m usually going for Starbucks or hanging out with friends.
Two things that people wouldn’t guess about me are that I love country music and I’m part Norwegian!
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I’m successful in the sense that despite moving around I’ve been able to do massage wherever I live, grow my business and have repeat clients.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I listen to my clients needs and focus the massage based on those needs. I’m also a personal trainer with a MS in Exercise Science and Nutrition so I have a more advanced understanding of the human anatomy and kinesiology.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
Sadly I don’t get to travel enough. Look for me in a city near you though because I intend to change that this year!
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I want my clients to feel satisfied with the service they received. I want them to feel relaxed, and know they can expect the same level of professionalism and service the next time they come back.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I’ve had the opportunity to meet all kinds of interesting people being a masseur. Some of the nicest people I’ve met are through doing massage and some have become great friends. I would definitely miss doing massage if I were to stop.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Some level of training is definitely needed but ultimately it comes down to being professional, personable, accepting, genuine and friendly. Being able to listen to your clients needs and making sure they feel at ease and comfortable with you is also key.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
I would tell them to take the time to learn some techniques then practice, practice, practice. Be patient with yourself, your clients and your business. The relationship with your clients is the key to your success so always be respectful and appreciate.
