HarryAtCSM's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Mar 19, 2019
- I don't remember my first client because I started providing massage so long ago (just for friends and dates). But since I received my license, I have had a number of very memorable massage sessions, with one in particular I doubt I'll never forget. A young Jewish man booked a massage with me at the spa I used to work at. He was a beautiful specimen of male masculinity (a hockey player) and I was thrilled to be given a chance to work on him. The massage went wonderfully and the time flew by. When it was time to end the session, he wanted to extend it, which I was more than happy to do. When it was over, he gave me his phone number and asked me to not lose it. We spoke shortly thereafter, but alas, things change and I've not been able to connect with him. This makes me think of the "Lost Connections" section on CraigsList (when it existed), and how I wish I could re-establish it and see him again and again. It's times like these that make me glad I chose to be a massage therapist :)
- Becoming a massage therapist is my fifth (and final) career. I chose massage therapy because of the satisfaction I find when clients tell me where they hurt and I am able to provide relief. When they get off the table after a massage and say "whew" and "oh man", that tells me that they know they've been massaged and hopefully in the way they needed. I love working with guys in particular, and just want to be a go-to person for pain relief as well as provide alone-time for relaxation and male camaraderie.
- I absolutely love dogs and have owned dogs on and off all my life. I currently have two dogs; a golden lab mix and a rat terrier. They love to play together and are truly a part of my family. Aside from providing love and attention to my 4-legged buds, I enjoy science fiction, really good food, and traveling to gay events whenever I can.
- I want my male clients to know that I am first and foremost a professional, licensed massage therapist, then second, a gay man. I want guys to know that I highly respect and honor personal boundaries, and only ask that they do the same. We all have personal preferences when it comes to attraction, and I feel it's important to recognize and value those preferences. Finally, I want my clients to know that I want to help them feel better than when they arrive. I want them to leave feeling that they got their monies worth and wanting to rebook with me again.
- I do, for a sole business person practicing massage therapy from his home studio. I've worked at a national spa chain (Hand and Stone) where I did very well providing massage to male and female clients and was consistently rebooked. But now that I'm on my own, I don't have as many clients, which is by choice. I prefer providing massage therapy to men who are comfortable receiving massage from a gay man. Because of this, my clientele is smaller, but I'm happy just working for male clients.
