Jack_verMieten's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Aug 03, 2020

Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I do my best to map every massage in advance, based on what little I know about each client beforeI get together with them. I look at what they write and how they express themselves. I listen to the words that they say and their tone of voice if I talk with them before the event. If I am fortunate enough to see them before the session, I gather what I can from them visually. he massages I give are as unique as snowflakes. No two are the sameWhile my methods may be considered slightly unorthodox or even weird, I believe the sense of touch is an essential life need and provides an innate sense of security, community, and caring amongst many species. It is perfectly healthy, sane, and necessary, in my opinion, for people-kind in order to maintain our humanity. Only in the human species have a few misguided insecure idealogues found a way to attach some fear, loathing, and shame to it to make themselves feel superior. However, in doing so, have they have lost some humanity in themselves? I live my life the way I see fit. Not the way others think I should.
Live and let live is a motto I will practice (although sometimes it is REALLY hard),for the rest of my life, God willing.

How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- When I started doing massage, travel was not something that occurred to me. I’m happy staying in Atlanta and doing a massage because we have the busiest airport in the world. Many of my sessions are people visiting here for a few days or even just a long layover. However, I began getting requests to visit other cities, and I started to log them. I’ve taken two trips so far, and I enjoyed them. I even though the person who pushed me to make the second trip was a no-show. That was a costly disappointment. So now I wait until I get enough requests before going to another city. So, if you would like me to come to your city, definitely let me know. And tell your friends to get massages too! Lol! If I get enough requests from the same location, I will make the trip. It doesn’t take a large number of people asking to make it worth booking travel for a couple of days. Washington DC, New York City, Los Angeles, and Fort Lauderdale/Miami are all excellent possibilities for not too distant future trips.

How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- Like their body and mind are in more of a symbiotic mode, and that their body feels limber and light. I also want the experience to be unique in some way than any other massage they have gotten. Lastly, I want them to feel like that made a very good choice when they came to see me and that they will come back and they will tell their friends that if they ever need a really good massage, go see Jack Vermieten!

4
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- I have been giving friends massages for years but had never been paid until f a friend called me and said he heard I gave great massages. He had a particular area that needed work, and he would pay me to relieve him with a massage. I started to say, no, it was just a hobby t. But just before I started talking, I saw my cat, Ozzy. Ozzy’s lower jaw didn’t look right since the day before, and it was getting worse. For the last day, my little buddy was continually wincing in pain and drooling excessively and, not his usual self at all. And the local vet was always costly for any previous treatments. So, I quickly said YES, I would accept the money for the massage. I explained why I was doing it as well. He offered to pay the entire vet bill if I would trade a few massages over the next couple of weeks. I cheerily accepted this offer and read up on his specific muscle injury and came to learn much more about massage. I guess I had a natural talent for it, But learning about massage through written and online learning and from LMT’s, I vastly improved as a masseur, and I have never stopped learning more about technique since then. So yes, I remember.”

5
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- I will always be motivated to be a successful masseur. But success is a very subjective term. I see success as enjoying what I do, doing it well enough that people want to get massages from me, feel safe placing their body into my hands, My goal is for each client to enjoy the session, the health and mental benefits, and a strong desire to come back.
I want to feel good about what I am doing. That I am always learning more about massage, studying the newest trends & techniques, trying new things, enhancing my abilities, learning to be a better masseur every day. My clients will help me do that. With the client feedback, I get. Ill know even when it isnt an intense therapeutic massage and what its right and what’s not right for my clients. Their feedback is valuable to me and might influence what I am going to do for the next client that comes through needing a massage.
If I can continue to work on being successful and feeling good about what I’m doing, then yes, I’m a successful masseur.

Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- I am always looking forward to the next adventure in life. Even the unknown ones because I believe every adventure or chapter in our lives have significance. Maybe we will be in a place of importance or meet a person of importance, or act in a way that will change something in the grand scheme of things for someone, maybe not quite like the Butterfly did in Ray Bradbury's " A Sound of Thunder." Providing massage definitely impacts at least two people's day; the client and myself and then and to an extent, everyone we encounter through the rest of the day and to an extent, however minuscule, the rest of our lives, so..what was the original question? Oh, YES I would miss it . I love rubbing someone down. I like the way it feels, the way it looks to see their skin shine in the low lighting and to feel it and watch it as I work it and as one example, break down the stress, the lactic acid and allow the muscle to replenish the oxygen it needs to do what it can do. very few jobs allow such a personal connection between client and service provider. Yes I will miss my masseur days but I can't wait to find out what I will replace it with!

7
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- They’re probably going to feel warm and a little oily, unless they wipe down or take a shower which is an option when they come to see me. But I WANT them to feel both relaxed and energized. I want them to feel like their body is more pliable; that if they wanted to,,they could jump up and down with far more bodily elasticity than before the massage. . I want them to have less pain if they came to me with pain in their body and their muscles should be more relaxed. I want them to feel good not just physically but I want to feel good mentally and that they made a smart move when they came to see me and that their body And their minds benefited. Lastly, I want them to feel like they need or want to make an appointment with me in a week or so.
