JeremyStyle's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Dec 14, 2016

1
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- My massage practice integrates the ideas of Eugene Gendlin on experiential intricacy. Inspired by Gendlin, I have developed, along with other bodyworkers, an approach called 'haptic music', which makes use of a wide range of traditional massage techniques{accupressure, shiatsu, swedish) but channels them into a form of 'massage music' with it's own tactile rhythms, tonal vocabulary, chords, harmonies and melodies.

2
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- I travel a few times during the year, mostly to San Francisco, L.A. and NYC.

3
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I love to move back and forth between the intellectual and the sensual. After all, body and mind are intertwined in every thing we do! The other thing you should know about me is I have a passion for connecting through touch.

4
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- When I'm not losing myself in the flesh of another man, I like to lose myself in beach volleyball and inline skating and biking and 10 mile walk-runs and weekend road-trips to tiny obscure towns and being spontaneous and random.
I enjoy making erotic videos, too.
I also have a thing for continental philosophy.

5
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- I guess the first question is what does it mean to be successful? If money is the criterion of success, then for the most part, I've been as successful as I wanted to be. I have always limited the number of clients that I see per day in order to be mentally at the top of my game. And I've always kept my price at the low end of the scale to make it easier for my regular clients to afford me.

But the measure of success that means more to me is whether I can dazzle both new and regular clients with an experience that soothes, inspires, recharges and hypnotizes. I'm not successful unless I have my clients staggering out of my studio in a blissful daze that lasts for a week!

6
Why did you become a Masseur?

- Doing massage had been in the back of my mind for a long time though, as if I was destined for it. I remember having the realization in college that I wanted to have the pleasure of human touch in my life on a weekly basis, that it was too important a thing to enjoy only occasionally or only in narrowly circumscribed contexts like a committed relationship, anonymous senual encounters or strictly athletic massage. It should be much easier(and more affordable!) than it is for people to be able to enjoy sensual, erotic or spiritual touch in a safe, professional environment, alongside and integrated with traditional therapeutic modalities.

Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- Massage is definitely addictive. Whereas doing something you don't enjoy leads to burn-out the longer you do it, anything that's creatively nurturing, like music or massage, has the opposite effect on your spirit.

Practicing massage has opened up for me whole new worlds of appreciation and enjoyment of the aesthetic joy of touch sensation. I think a lot of us are imprisoned by barriers to connecting ssnsually with others. Not just from childhood trauma or strict religious upbringing, but the barriers of negative body self-image, or not being able to get past the imperfections we see(age, weight, physical blemishes) in other bodies.

As a masseur, being in intimate contact with all varieties of shapes, sizes, ages and ethnicities has been enormously liberating for me. Its taught me how to get to the core of the other person's eros , and in doing so, had brought me closer to my own erotic core.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- When you become a masseur, you are actually becoming many things. You are becoming an athlete, because to do your job effectively without injuring yourself, you have to maintain yourself in top notch physical condition.
You are also to an extent a dancer, because you are performing choreography on your clients. That means as a quality masseur you will develop an awareness of how to coordinate the movements your fingers, hands, feet and torso to give as seamless a performance as possible.

I think the best masseurs are also musicians, integrating their mastered techniques to create an organic, intentional flow instead of a mechanical process.Like music, massage has rhythms, tones, chords, consonances and dissonances, introductions, climaxes and denouements.

Great masseurs are also psychologists. So much of the aches and pains people store in their shoulders, upper and lower back, glutes and legs is the body's defensive response to emotional stress. A masseur's challenge is to read the body language of stress, connecting knotted, spasmed muscles and stiff joints with a terrorizing boss or a needy spouse. Even seeing a new masseur is stressful for many people.

9
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- I want to dazzle both new and regular clients with an experience that soothes, inspires, recharges and hypnotizes. I'm not successful unless I have my clients staggering out of my studio in a blissful daze that lasts for a week!

Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- I was between jobs as a psychological counselor at the time. Doing massage had been in the back of my mind for a long time though, as if I was destined for it. I remember having the realization in college that I wanted to have the pleasure of human touch in my life on a weekly basis, that it was too important a thing to enjoy only occasionally or only in narrowly circumscribed contexts like a committed relationship, anonymous sensual encounters or strictly athletic massage.

It should be much easier(and more affordable!) than it is for people to be able to enjoy sensual, erotic or spiritual touch in a safe, professional environment, alongside and integrated with traditional therapeutic modalities.

11
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- I want to dazzle both new and regular clients with an experience that soothes, inspires, recharges and hypnotizes. I'm not successful unless I have my clients staggering out of my studio in a blissful daze that lasts for a week!

12
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- Training is important in order to master the basics of anatomy and physiology. It's also the best way to be introduced to the core techniques that you will need in order to effectively do your job.
But training will only get you so far. Where you will really come into your own as a masseur with your own style and form of expression is in the actual doing of massage over a period of time. Like any other art, constant practice is the best route to becoming a great masseur.

13
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- I've been a masseur for more than 12 years, and as long as my clients keep enjoying my services, I have no plans to stop giving massages!
