JohnnyInLA's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Feb 29, 04:05

1
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- I remember one of my first clients in DC. I believed he had served 13 tours. He had a prosthetic leg. I love to be present and treat everyone with kindness and respect. I remember being nervous but he assured me I could go as hard as I'd like. He had such a positive energy and when I did something that made him feel good he would cheer, "Yes, yes, yes." I felt like I had scored a touchdown. He also said I made him feel calm and relaxed which I thought unique since I'm high in energy. But then compared to a war zone... . I make sure to center myself and my breathing to connect and get in the zone with my clients. That guy was special and I'm glad I got to meet and help him.

How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- I'd love for someone to feel taken care of, centered, relaxed and present no matter the day they were having when they arrived. Even a short time of being in their body content and out of their head is a sign that I've been useful. ;)

3
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- I love to spend time with friends and family; and to meet new people when out and about. Naturally curious and would be delighted to travel more. I can also stay home and read a book...or chill and watch a movie.

4
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- I love to meet new people. Everybody and body is different. I get in a deep focus that is akin to a moving and healing meditation. Giving my all to help make someone's day is special and I don't take it for granted. I get addicted to pleasing and helping others.

5
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- Yes based on the feedback I receive from my clients. I hear what they tell me and also see how their body moves in a relaxed and effortless manner after the massage. I focus on giving people my best effort based on their needs. It's their time for me to help them. I check in and respond to verbal and nonverbal feedback during our session. This is another opportunity to connect and be helpful.

6
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- I've been a masseur since 2018 and likely to continue for at least the next five years. Love helping people feel revitalized and recentered.

7
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- There are many talented and beautiful people on this site!

I do my best to listen, smile, choose kindness and respect; and make my clients feel comfortable. I’m always taking in new ideas and willing to adjust based on feedback. I have more to learn each day.

Clients frequently thank me and I get off on making them satisfied.

I’d relish the opportunity to help you feel great today. Send me a text! :)

8
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- Full body relaxation. Total satisfaction. Tranquility. Quiet strength to face their day or relaxed enough to take a nap or rest for the night. A contented smile would be great too!

9
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- Yes. I’m a perfectionist. I wouldn’t even do a massage and ask for compensation unless I knew it was good. Clients are spending their money and want a good massage. I feel compelled to be good and do better.

I would say some people have an intuitive sense of touch and can probably do better faster.

Practice with a model giving feedback is invaluable. I love feedback. Fastest way to improvement. Remember: every body is different.

10
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- Do plenty of exercising, cardio and stretching. Get plenty of eat whole foods as much as possible. Continue to take courses, watch videos, get massages. Incorporate new things that feel great for you. This is a sharing profession. The more you care about your clients, the better you can be.

11
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- Love to workout, bootcamp fitness classes, done out, read, coffee with friends. Enjoy tv shows and film. Learn new things on Udemy. Recently took RuPaul and Sara Blakely’s MasterClass.

12
Why did you become a Masseur?

- I love helping people feel good, learning and incorporating techniques that actualize this.

I also like independence and flexibility—being my own boss. I’ve been in software before this; and it’s been a wonderful challenge to meditatively bond with people on a more intimate level for longer periods of time.

13
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I love to connect with people and help them feel better. Love learning. Listen to tons of podcasts and audiobooks. Read too. Love to laugh and dance and do activities that lighten the seriousness of life.
