KnightlyMassage's Personal Masseur Interview

- My first official client booking, after weeks of practicing on friends and acquaintances who were willing to volunteer, was more of a challenge than I expected right out of the gate: it was a request from someone who wanted to book back-to-back massages - 90 minutes each! - for himself and his husband. I can be honest about it now and say I was intimidated. I had not yet done any massage without having at least a few hours in between, and I was concerned that my energy would not be up to par for the second client! That would have been a very bad way to start out on a new career!

As it turned out, of course, I had nothing to worry about. I was invigorated after the first session, especially after the client's audibly blissful responses throughout the massage and his enthusiastic praise of my skills afterward - and when it was his husband's turn on the table, I was so excited to give it another go right away that I never felt even a moment of fatigue!

It was a day that boosted my confidence and made me grateful I had chosen to take the path of being a bodyworker - and for the record, the couple became regular clients who continue to book sessions with me to this very day!

- I like them to feel like they've had an out-of-body experience, yet also totally in touch with their physical being. In short, I like them to feel amazing! Anything less would be unacceptable!

- I don't believe in making judgments of other people. We are all on a journey, and we're all in the right place, for us, in every moment. Who am I to decide that somebody else is doing life wrong? As long as they are doing no harm to others, I give everyone the same freedom to be who they are as I hope they will give to me.

- It depends on both the masseur and the approach they are comfortable taking. It's important to know about anatomy, and what results different kinds of strokes and pressure can be used to achieve, of course; but massage is also a practice that engages your senses, your feelings, and your state of mind, and those are things that can't be learned by study - only through experience. There is always an element of massage that depends on following your instincts and your intuitions, and the best masseurs are able to do that, with confidence, whether they have formal training or not.

- I'm a die-hard movie fan, since my childhood, and my tastes are all over the place. So I spend a lot of time watching those. I also enjoy art, and even though I am definitely not an artist I love to be part of the process as a model, which is something I have been exploring recently. It's thrilling!

Or course, I also love the gym - weight training, kettle bells, cardio, you name it. Like my massage, my approach to fitness is a mix of styles - and it's also a crucial element of my ability to be a top-notch masseur. Or model, obviously!

- Absolutely! My work has brought so many wonderful guys into my life, every client is a new connection and our session is a new experience, and my evolution as a masseur - and as a person - is influenced by all of them. I also get the joy of knowing I am helping and healing others with my work, and that is the kind of success that feels most important to me.

The fact that I love doing it is really just the icing on the cake!
