LABodyMechanic's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Jun 20, 2019
- Ha! That's a book. There's so much to know about being a masseur depending on the kind of work you want to do with people. Always keep learning, massage school will only take you so far, but yes, get a certification to start. Experience is truly the best teacher. Make sure you do strength work to offset the work of massage or you'll never last. Use your legs, not your hands to drive the power you need for bodywork, and know that your energy is not limitless. Balance. Give only so much massage that you can deliver your best work and still take care of yourself. The list goes on..
- Yes. I had enrolled in massage school and I thought...I should do a test to see if I'll actually even like this. I worked on a friend as my first client. He was always super tense, always in pain and often got massages, so I figured he'd be a good critic. Afterward, he gave me a huge hug and said it was one of the best massages he'd ever had. My style has changed, but the intuition still drives it all. He still gets bodywork from me every once in a while.
