LiamCHI's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Mar 10, 00:43
- I remember the first time it felt really meaningful to have given a massage. I witnessed an athlete injure their ankle badly during a sporting event. I offered to take a look at it, and asked their permission to do some work on it. They gave consent, and I intuitively went to work on their calf, and ankle. After a little work, and a lot of attentive listening with my hands, and to their body language, I stepped back and asked them to put some weight on it. The stood up, and to their surprise were able to stand without pain. They took a few steps, turned towards me with a big laugh, and a smile, and said "What kind of magic did you just do!? It feels completely better!"
They hopped back into their activity, and to this day I've embraced that balance between the knowledge I've gained (and continue to gain) through education, and experience, paired with the deep sense of intuition that comes through my hands once they are on someone's body.
- In high school I was an athlete who suffered a severe back injury. I was in a tremendous amount of pain all the time. I went to get my first massage to see if it could help bring some ease to the pain... I know it sounds strange, but I felt the most minor amount of relief for just a few seconds during the massage. That might not inspire most people, but it did inspire me. So I decided to go to massage school, learn all I could, then find a mentor who blew my mind with their knowledge, learn as much as I could from their mentorship, and then use that knowledge to fix my back. So that's exactly what I did, and it has changed my life for the better!
At one point in my life I was barely able to walk, and had the most excruciating pain 24/7 without relief. Now I live pain free, and help others do the same. The sense of purpose that comes from helping elevate another person's quality of life is absolutely rewarding!
- I have been through periods where I've experienced burn out from massage, and would take breaks from offering it. Ultimately, I always come back to it, as it's such an integral part of me. The more I've grown as the professional, the guide, the caring yet assertive listener, and have developed clear boundaries that help me stay in my joy, the more I thrive in massage, and the happier my clients are. I'm thankful to say that I absolutely adore what I do.
- I would encourage them to receive a handful of massages from experienced massage therapists. Once they find someone who's style inspires them, get a few sessions from them, ask them whatever questions spark your curiosity. I'd also encourage them to ask the question "if you ha to do it all over again to get to where you are now, what would you do differently, and what would you do the same?"
Respect the time, and knowledge of an experienced therapist, and I'm sure they'll be happy to give you some pointers. I know I would.
- I am very much a homebody, but also a lover of adventure! I travel often to visit new places, catch up with friends, and on occasion am flown to exotic destinations to work on my massage clients (to take care of the ones who take very good care of me).
- I have extensive training, and education across dozens of massage modalities. I've mentored under some of the greatest minds in the massage world. Am a master of anatomy, and have a deep passion for helping someone connect to, and understand their body better. I will always deliver a top shelf experience when you step into my world.
- I enjoy mastering my own body in the gym, staying active, and finding ways to engage in all the joy life has to offer.
- I want clients to feel like they've just had one of the most incredible massage experiences of their life, one that inspires them to come back for more.
- I think safe, intuitive touch comes to some organically. I also believe that there's so much incredible knowledge that many cultures have to teach us about touch, and massage. I love blending my natural inclination for healing touch with the immense knowledge I've gained by learning from what other's have had to teach me along the way.
- I've been doing massage in one form or another my entire life, and will be for as long as I breath. There's so much to be learned in the shared experience of a massage. New awarenesses to gain about your body's present needs.
- I hope you leave with a newfound sense of life, bliss, and euphoria... and quite possibly a new addiction to self-care.
- I want my clients to know that massage (for me) is all about creating a sense of trust, and safety. One that you can melt right into, knowing that you are in very capable, and attentive hands, that will take care of you as you slip off into a hypnotic state.
- In terms of creating an experience that someone wants to return to time and time again, I consider myself very successful.
