MaxwellImpact's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Aug 17, 21:40
- My first client was a man who had hired me as a day laborer for home improvement. After a few days on the job, he asked me if I would give him a massage. I had no idea what to do but he convinced me to give it a try. It was a bit awkward with no training but I enjoyed it enough to go to the store and buy massage lotion and a massage table and post on Craigslist offering massage the very next day. It wasnt until 2 years later that I got licensed.
- While attending law school, I determine that I was never going to be happy burried in crippling debt, forced to take a job I wasnt passionately about and work 60-70 hours a week. I thought long and hard about how my love for people, healing energy and ability to help others find solutions to their problems could translate into a career. Massage was not an obvious answer but I felt called to do it.
- I love spending time with my friends. I have a tribe of loving, supportive gay men, right here in Dallas. Its multi-generational with many in their 40s, 50s and 60s. There are also plenty of guys in their early 20s and 30s. Mentorship is key to our bond. We love to attend live music shows, dance, teavel, have dinner parties and enjoy each other's company as often as time permits. Additionally, my family is very important to me. I dedicate half of every Wednesday to spending time with my parents and grandma.
- I want them to leave knowing they are welcome back. I start each session with a hug and a warn welcome. I try to reassure each person that I am glad they are here and then I express that I'd like to see them again soon. I try to read the energy of each client so I can tailor this experience to meet them where they are. No one wants to leave wandering if they are welcome back. Ill tell you and show you.
- Currently I do not travel much at all. I have the best friends a man could hope for, right here in Dallas. My family is also in the metro area. Im happy here.
- I have been a masseur for 14 years. I have not always done it full time. Approximately 6 of the 14 years I was part time. Ive been full time again for 4 years. I love what I do!
- I am as authentic as they come. I am comfortable talking about anything and everything. Addiction, Trauma, body image, societal norms, family drama, shame, vulnerability, connection, dreams, failures, struggles. If you ask 10 people about me you will get a range of answers: grounded, enlightened, primal, party animal, mommas boy, mentor, daddy, reliable, trustworthy, consistent, but always authentic.
- My business has changed and grown over the years. I started as an escort and found that I had a gift for massage. I attended the prestigious National Holistic Institute of Massage and Bodywork in San Francisco. When I graduated the Chiropractor office I interned at offered me a full time position but I opted to open my own practice, dedicated to strictly therapeutic massage. As time went on I came to learn a few truths, namely that massage serves many more purposes than providing relaxation and relief and more importantly that very few therapist took the time to find out why their clients where coming to see them, to be able to tailor their sessions to meet their needs. Some of the reasons men come to see me for massage include: learning to get comfortable with their body, skin to skin body contact, healing from a traumatic experience, getting comfortable with the male body, experimenting, or simply to be seen by someone who will accept them just as they are.
