OlympusMassage's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I remember my first session very well! I was super nervous to lay my hands on someone else for the first time, and that caused me to be clumsy and uncoordinated throughout the session. However, I was working with an experience massage therapist that understood the learning process, and they helped me to become more relaxed myself, which made the session much better.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Absolutely! Massage has always been a side gig for me, and I hope it always will be. I love the energy exchange that happens during a session, as it helps me to center myself and also keep my own bodywork needs in check.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Success is one of those words that we hear so often in our culture, but nobody really knows what it means. If success is a constantly moving goal post, how is anyone supposed to be successful? Instead of falling victim to that term, I consider myself a fulfilled massage therapist!
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
When I was 19, I ran away with the circus! Really! I am a stage manager and stage director for circus shows, which is what led me to develop my specialty in Sports and Performance Recovery.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want you to feel like you got exactly what you wanted out of the session! It helps me to know what you're looking for, so let's be open and honest in our communication together.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a massage therapist because I was inspired by the first one that I saw, after a car accident in 2007. My first massage experience was a life-changing experience. I saw the same therapist for about a year, until I moved away to a new city for a job. There, I struggled to find a massage therapist that made me feel the way that my first had; this one went way too deep and it hurt like hell, the next one went too fast or made odd small talk throughout the session that didn't allow me to relax. After several disappointing sessions, I felt inspired to learn massage so that I could strive to provide the kind of session that my first massage therapist had given me: A bodywork session that allowed me relax into a therapeutic bliss, where I could feel deep and very intentional attention to every knot and area of muscle strain in my body. A place where I could trust my therapist to treat me with care and respect. And finally, the feeling of being able to walk away with a stronger sense of my body and my breath.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
Every massage client is different, and it stands to reason that every massage therapist should be as well. I have studied many different styles of massage over the years in order to offer a unique blend that helps my clients feel completely relaxed while also getting legitimate work done on their sore spots. I hope that my passion for bodywork makes my session memorable!
