ProfessionalLMT's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Jan 07, 17:25

1
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- In my personal experience, regardless of the specific clientele, you would want all clients to feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and satisfied with the quality of the massage. The aim is for them to leave with a sense of physical and emotional well-being, having had a positive, respectful, and comfortable experience tailored to their needs. Positive client experiences often lead to repeat business and referrals, which are important for success in the profession.

2
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- Yes, extensive training is generally necessary for a masseur to be successful. They typically need to complete a program that includes anatomy, physiology, and various massage techniques, as well as hands-on practice. Many regions also require masseurs to be licensed, which involves passing an exam and maintaining continuing education credits.

3
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- My travel frequency would depend on the nature of my practice. If I offer mobile massage services, I might travel regularly within the Atlanta area to meet clients. However, if my practice is based in a fixed location, such as a spa or wellness center, I might travel less for work but possibly attend conferences or continuing education courses occasionally.

Regarding personal preference, it would vary. I might enjoy traveling to experience new cultures and techniques that can enrich my practice, but I could also appreciate the stability and routine of being a homebody, finding comfort in the local community where I've built my client base.

4
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- With an established career of 8 years and specialized skills in deep tissue and pressure point therapy, I would likely be deeply invested in my practice and the community I serve. Continuation would depend on my ongoing passion for the work, the satisfaction and results my clients experience, and my physical ability to perform massages. Many massage therapists find joy in their work for decades, and with a strong educational background and a thriving practice, I might well envision continuing my career for many more years to come.

5
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- What sets me apart from other massage therapists is my individualized approach to therapy. I place a strong emphasis on listening to my clients' unique concerns and crafting a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific issues. My dedication to continuing education means that I stay current with the most effective techniques, and I integrate this knowledge into my practice to provide the most beneficial experience. Additionally, my professionalism and commitment to creating a serene, healing environment set the stage for a truly therapeutic and rejuvenating massage experience.

6
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- To someone aspiring to become a masseur, I would advise:

1. **Get Proper Training**: Enroll in a reputable massage therapy program that covers a wide range of techniques and includes a thorough grounding in anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

2. **Obtain Certification and Licensing**: Ensure you meet all the legal requirements to practice in your area, which typically includes passing a state-approved licensing exam.

3. **Develop Strong Interpersonal Skills**: Cultivate a professional yet empathetic bedside manner. Communication is key to understanding client needs and building a repeat customer base.

4. **Commit to Lifelong Learning**: The field is always evolving, so continue your education to stay current with new techniques and industry trends.

5. **Practice Self-Care**: Masseurs need physical and mental stamina, so it’s important to maintain your own health with good body mechanics, regular exercise, and stress-relief practices.

6. **Gain Experience**: Start by working in various settings, like spas, wellness centers, or sports facilities, to find what suits you best and build a diverse skill set.

7. **Be Patient and Build a Client Base**: It takes time to establish biz

7
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- I would want clients to feel a profound sense of physical relief and relaxation when they leave. My goal is for them to experience reduced muscle tension, increased mobility, and a calm mind. I aim to have clients walk away feeling rejuvenated, with a sense of holistic well-being, and the feeling that they have taken a meaningful step in their self-care routine.

8
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- As a professional massage therapist in Atlanta, I would want my clients to know that I am deeply committed to their well-being. I have extensive training in various massage techniques and a strong background in anatomy and physiology, which allows me to tailor my approach to each individual's needs. My practice is centered on providing a therapeutic experience that not only addresses physical tension but also promotes overall relaxation and stress relief. I believe in the healing power of touch and am dedicated to creating a comfortable and safe environment for my clients to unwind and heal.

9
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- My name is Jorge, and when I'm not working as a masseur in Midtown Atlanta, you can find me embracing life in a myriad of ways. They say that variety is the spice of life, and my hobbies certainly reflect that mantra.

Each morning begins with a trip to the gym. The clanging of the weights, the rhythm of the treadmill, the burn of a well-executed set of calisthenics - it's a symphony that invigorates my senses and sets the tone for the day.

On weekends, I trade the gym for the open road, hopping on my bike. Cycling is my meditation in motion, my mind clearing as I pedal, each rotation bringing a sense of calm and freedom. As the cityscape gives way to nature, I often stop to capture the beauty through my lens. Photography enables me to see the world from different perspectives, to appreciate the beauty in the details.

Yoga, for me, is a journey of self-discovery. Each pose, each breath, brings me closer to my inner self, grounding me in the present. It's a practice that not only nourishes my body but also my mind and soul.

One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I get lost in the worlds created by words, each story opening a door to new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities....

10
Why did you become a Masseur?

- Growing up, my Uncle Alberto was my hero. He was this larger-than-life figure, a beacon of inspiration, who was studying to become a physician. As a young gay Latino in midtown Atlanta, I looked up to him, captivated by his determination and passion for medicine.

I still remember the day Uncle Alberto came home, exhausted but excited after a long day at medical school. He began to share stories of his experiences - the intense studies, the demanding schedules, but most importantly, the human connection he felt. He spoke of how medicine wasn't just about curing diseases but about understanding and healing people.

One day, he noticed the interest in my eyes and suggested something that would change my life - "Jorge, have you ever considered massage therapy?"

At first, I was taken aback. I had never thought about it. But Uncle Alberto explained his perspective - "It's a different form of healing," he said. "You can provide relief, comfort, and it's hands-on. It's about understanding the human body and helping it heal. Plus, it can be a fulfilling career."

And that's when I decided to enroll in Atlanta school massage where I earned my associates degree in deep tissue massage.

11
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- Very much so.

It's not just a career, it's a way of life, a way of healing, a way of bonding. 🥰

12
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- Living in the vibrant heart of midtown Atlanta, I found my purpose as a masseur. My name is Jorge, a proud young gay Latino, carving a successful path in a field I am passionate about.

My studio, a serene oasis amid the city buzz, is a place where my clients find relief from their pains and stresses. Each one of them has a unique story, and I am privileged to play a part in it.

Being gay and Latino in the South hasn't always been easy, but I've embraced my identity with pride. It's become my strength, adding to my unique perspective and approach towards my work.

One of my most memorable experiences was with my first client, Angela. She came in, burdened with chronic back pain and skepticism. I took the time to understand her needs, and as my hands worked their magic, I saw her skepticism fade away, replaced by relief and gratitude. That moment of transformation, it's why I do what I do.

My success isn't just defined by the growing clientele or positive reviews. It's in the bonds I've formed, the trust I've earned, and the lives I've touched. Each day, I wake up excited to continue my journey, knowing I'm making a difference while staying true to who I am.

Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- My heart pounded with anticipation as I welcomed my first massage client, Angela. She carried the weight of chronic back pain on her shoulders, both physically and emotionally. I started our session by understanding her lifestyle and pain points, aiming to offer more than just temporary relief.

As I began, my training took over. I focused on her pain areas, working through each knot with precision and care. Halfway through the session, I noticed her breathing deepen, signifying her relaxation.

By the end, Angela sat up with a surprised look, commenting on how "light" she felt. Her words filled me with a sense of accomplishment. I suggested some exercises for her to do at home, and she left with a promise to return.

That day, I not only gained my first client but also a newfound confidence in my skills and a passion that would fuel my career for years to come.
