Rubuwell's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
Enjoying the art of touch and massage, myself, I decided to become a masseur 30+ years ago.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Considering the number of years I have been a masseur, one could conclude that I am not ready to give it up, as yet!
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
With over 30 years experience, and still going, yes, I consider myself a successful masseur. I have client who have been returning for years on a regular basis, and I consider that an indicator of success.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I would like them to know that I am kind, caring, and considerate of their desires and needs.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
when they leave, my clients should feel confident that they have received their best massage ever; that they were welcomed, nurtured, and given my full attention.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
My hobbies include cooking, gardening, movies, good music, food, and wine, along with international travels.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a masseur because I loved receiving massages myself, and felt that I was intuitive where the male body is concerned. With that in mind, I felt that I could become a successful masseur.+
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Advice would be to tune in to your client's body language; be aware of what works and what doesn't; be flexible with your approach: no rote/spa massages. Listen to your client and show that you care about his needs.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
My maturity is one distinguishing factor; my responsiveness to the needs of expectations of the client would be another. Although I am in charge, my awareness of the client's goals for the session would be a driving force, as well.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a masseur for over 30 years and will continue as long as I have clients requesting my services.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I have traveled extensively for many years, mostly to Europe, Mexico, Latin America, and the Middle East. I try to take two international trips per year.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Having extensive training adds to a Masseur's repertoire of techniques. That is why I have availed myself of a variety of workshops over the years after my initial training. It also provides networking opportunities with other masseurs.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
When my clients leave, I like to feel that they had the best experience ever; that they got more than their expectations; that their masseur was a warm, kind, caring, and considerate therapist who attended to their physical and emotional well-being, and that they would definitely return.
