ShawnMonroe's Personal Masseur InterviewLast Updated: Nov 14, 2018
- I've been a masseur since the end of 2015, and as long as I can make men - including you - feel happy and less stressed, I see no point in stopping!
- The main thing I'd say is ALWAYS be polite and courteous! Being kind will get you very far. I'd also say know your limits; remember you'll need to eat, sleep, and sit down like anyone else.
I'd also say don't be afraid to travel, too, and if you can, don't ignore smaller cities. Just because someone doesn't live in NYC or LA doesn't mean they aren't in need of your services.
Always look for ways you can make your experience better, too. Will a different lotion/oil, different music to set the mood, aromatherapy, additional services create the best experience you can give? Always look to make yourself better and distinguish yourself from the pack.
- I there are many ways to be a successful masseur. Some find it through extensive training at a school, some find it through extensive work with clients, some are successful at massage and bodywork intuitively. Though for many of us, it's a combination of some or all of these methods. I've met many masseurs who have gone through school, some who just know the body well, and all of us do great work!
- I do consider myself successful; I've traveled across the southwest, midwest, Pacific North West, and the East coast. I've had success and happy clients all over the country, and I'm excited to bring my services to the south with my move to Atlanta - I also plan to travel to many of the cities in surrounding areas.
- People have told me that my calm personality is healing.
In having a calm personality, people feel very open and relaxed around me.
And I've learned to listen to people in a way that others don't - not just their words, but the body and their actions too.
You may find someone who is amazing with their hands, but has no ability to forge any other sort of connection.
But I know the bond we form, and the trust between us is the most important part - my strong hands are a great added bonus.
- In my spare time, I enjoy writing. I write for a few adult-themed blogs, and have found that I even enjoy connecting with people over written word!
Besides writing, I enjoy fitness. I'm usually in the gym 6 days a week, and then work with a barbell on my olympic lifts an additional 3 hours a week on top of that. I even recently ran my first half marathon!
I also like music, social events, eating, drinking, and finding things to do that don't revolve around eating and drinking.
- People have always told me is that I have a calm personality, to the point of being healing. People say that being around me makes them feel calmer.
- I want clients to feel totally relaxed and soothed.
I want them to feel like they got exactly what they were looking for, and all of their needs were taken care of.
Ultimately, I want them to be happy, and I want to be the one they know they can call when they want to be happy again.
- I travel often! In the last year, I've been able to visit some of my favorite cities like Seattle, Vegas, NOLA, NYC, California, and of course Austin, Houston, and Dallas.
I'm looking forward to traveling even more in 2016. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I'm of course hoping to see more of my favorite cities, and see the Midwest and more of the Northeast.
- I became a masseur because I realized that the times I'm happiest are the times when I was able to form a bond with someone - I made them happy, I fulfilled their needs, and we made a connection.
Making others happy makes me happy.
- When they leave, I want them to feel like I fulfilled their needs. I want to be the one that makes them happy. And I want them to feel like I can make them happy and fulfill their needs again and again.
- I would!
The relationship between you and your masseur is a rather unique one, the intimacy of which you don't experience anywhere else.
I would miss the intimate relationships and bonds I build along the way if I gave it up.
- I do! And I don't think I'll ever forget him.
He was a very sweet, very kind gentleman.
And very appreciative - he called my services "terrific" and we made a real connection.
