Shotaro's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
Being from Japan , massage is a normal part of our everyday lives. I have always admired the skill of my masseurs friends in Japan and decided to one day just go and study. After 12 months of training side by side with so many talented mentors I was happy to begin my practice and enjoyed it very much.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would definitely miss my masseur days if I stopped. Its my passion , it is what I know I am meant to do. I enjoy seeing my clients relaxed and rejuvenated after our session together.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Yes I do actually consider myself successful. Successful in the sense that while living in Philadelphia for the pst 3 years I developed a very dedicated / repeat clientele base that still to this day will text me periodically asking when I will return to Philadelphia for a visit.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
That I truly enjoy my work as a masseur which actually doesn't feel like work because I truly enjoy it.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I would like someone to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. And I want them to feel that they had experience that made them feel as if they were the only person in world for those 60 or 90 minutes during our session.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I definitely go to the gym. I love love love cooking and watching my favorite japanese television shows on youtube.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a Masseur because I knew it was something that I was very passionate about and I could see myself doing it for the rest of my life.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
I would say, make sure you are doing it for the right reason and that you have a passion to bring joy, relaxation and bliss to people.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I feel that my personal training from Japan sets me apart from other because asian and the orient is probably one of the best places to get a massage.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a Masseur for over 5 years and I truly don't see myself stopping any time soon.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel home to Japan about once every other year. I love living in the states especially Los Angeles. And I am truly a homebody.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Training truly is necessary and is a great combination with the natural gift and passion for this art form.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like for my clients to feel very relaxed, less stressed from their day and feel as if they just had a very long well catered to pampered vacation. ;-)
