bryanmasssage's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I do remember my first client. It was a 4 hand session with my experienced partner and I was a bit nervous. I was able to help with some lower back pain that the client had and he left feeling much better than when he came in.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I agree. I would very much miss it. I love helping people relieve their muscle tension. It is incredibly fulfilling.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Yes, I consider myself successful. A significant number of my clients are now regulars.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
When my clients leave, I want them to feel relaxed. If they came in with specific muscle tension issues, I'd like to to leaving feeling that I've helped them with those issues.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes it is. Whether formal training through a school or informal through an experienced masseuse.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I used to travel frequently. However after some time of doing that, I got burned out. Now, I prefer to spend more time in my home city with less trips per year but more meaningful ones.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I workout quite a bit, love to play pool, spend time with my closest friends, and take my dog to the park.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I feel that I am rather in touch with other's feelings. I'm quite intuitive and can usually read a person's mood. I believe this is very important as many of my clients like to talk during a session and being able to say the right things or just listen can affect the atmosphere of a session.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Massage is not as easy as you may think. It is physically challenging as well as emotionally and mentally challenging. Any type of massage is a very intimate experience between therapist and client. The therapist always has to be on top of their game for each and every massage. Unlike other jobs where you might occasionally get by with slacking, this is not one of them.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
My goal for each client is that they leaving feeling as though they were my most important client. That they felt accepted in my judgement free zone, spoiled by my hands, and comfortable in my studio.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been doing this type of bodywork for 5 years now and I would like to continue as long as I have the physical and emotional capacity to do so. If and when I no longer have the desire to provide my 5 star service, then I will graciously bow out.
Why did you become a Masseur?
When I first started on this journey my primary reason was to add diversification to my income streams. However, as I continued in this field I discovered the incredibly rewarding feeling that I got from a very satisfied customer.
