rubabud's Massage Interview
Why did you become a Masseur?
I remember getting a massage table and supplies, just for fun. Then after practicing with partners, I realized that there was something really there. I can remember interviewing with different schools and talking myself out of going to massage school for a couple of years. Finally, I found the right school and took the leap. One of the best decisions I ever made! I guess there really is a right time and place for everything.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
In my case, I found that extensive training was invaluable. I went to one of, if not the best massage school in Washington State. All the things from sanitation and bedside manner down to the details of every major muscle in the body and how they move and ways to manipulate them to bring relief to my client.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
The first person I massaged was someone I was intimately involved with. Since I already had a massage table and enjoyed mutual touch, I decided to give it a try. After completing massage school, I have been practicing ever since and have been thoroughly enjoying it!
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I love my job and I would miss the diversity of people that I work with. Many of my clients travel for work from all over the world, including doctors, lawyers, dancers, actors, and tech workers. I feel honored to meet and work with such a variety of individuals.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I grew up in New Orleans and then moved to Seattle during High School. I consider myself a foodie and enjoy cooking, especially baking. Although I almost went to culinary school, sometimes I think I should have pursued it. I have an entrepreneurial spirit and consider myself intuitive.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I take pride the number of regular and repeat clients that I have. It brings me joy and a sense of accomplishment when my clients are satisfied with my services and feel like their treatment has been effective. Ultimately, my goal is to see my client leave with a smile on their face.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
After each session, my goal is for clients to feel energized, relieved, and happy.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, cooking, and traveling. Two of my favorite trips have been to Thailand and Australia.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
You need to be well-rounded to run a business. Attending massage school helped prepare me to run my own practice.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
None of them are ME!
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been working as a massage therapist for 10 years and I do not see myself quitting anytime soon.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
My goal is to create a pleasant and memorable experience for my clients that they would want to relive.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel as often as I can, quarterly if possible! I also love to go camping at the gay campgrounds (in an RV of course). Palm Springs and San Diego are some of my favorite places to go. And I have to admit, there are days when I am totally happy just being a home body!
