ATouchofClass's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I was always interested in fitness, nutrition, and I like people, so qualifying as a masseur was the next step. My first client came for therapeutic massage. He was a friendly and polite guy, and I thought that the massage went well.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Yes. I don't know about 'addictive', but it's a great feeling to be able to make another person feel good. It's a very rewarding job, where no two days are the same, and I really feel that what I do has value in the modern world.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I believe I am quite successful. I have the qualifications, the training and the experience. I can charge a fee that reflects my experience and skills. But what really makes me feel successful is when I get the same clients coming back again and again.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I would like my clients to know that I enjoy giving pleasure and care about the quality of my massage. Because my work involves promoting health and wellbeing, I practice what I preach: I eat a healthy diet and work out daily.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want him to think: 'Wow!'. But seriously speaking, I want him to feel good knowing that whilst he was having a very pleasurable and enjoyable experience, he also did something good to his body and health. Too many fun things in life are unhealthy, but a high quality sensual massage gives you the best of both worlds.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I am very focused on my work, it was my interest a long time before it became my job. So I work out according to my schedule, shop for healthy and delicious food, and occasionally train to improve my technique even more. But I also like to go out with my friends and let my hair down sometimes.
Why did you become a Masseur?
It's a good thing to do, giving pleasure and improving someone's well being. I could not work in a job that doesn't add something good to the world because I would find it really hard. Giving massages is such a positive and enjoyable thing to do.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Get properly qualified, it's very important to know what you are doing. Focus on your touch at all times, don't let your mind wander as you perform the massage. It's not just your client who is having a special experience, you have to be in the moment as well.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
All of them? That's a difficult question. There are some amazing masseurs out there. But, I suppose, each person is different, and each masseur brings a slightly different approach to their work. So I have my own technique which is unique to me.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
Around 3 years, maybe a bit longer. I would continue for as long as I have the strength and energy to do a good job. When I start to feel that I'm not giving a really good massage, I'll stop. But I'm still very young, so I have a long time until then.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I'm both. I like to meet different people and it's always exciting to be somewhere new. But I also love London and feel at home here, so I don't feel a constant need to travel around. I get out a couple of times a year, have a great time, then feel happy to return.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I would say 'yes'. But it depends on what you mean. If by successful you mean 'popular', then not necessarily - there are some masseurs who don't train in the therapeutic techniques and offer a simple sensual massage without training. And they can be popular. But to me, 'success' means being valued for giving a high quality massage.
