AlanBrock's Massage Interview
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Doing massage for over 25yrs, I find myself trying to leave but always being pulled back. The intimate sharing of energy with a client, and the healing that takes place can’t be just replaced, and always pulls a therapist back!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
If you’re looking for a masseur, look for someone who speaks of the type of work you’re looking for. Don’t expect every masseur to be able to give you the type of work you want just because they have training. We all get into doing massage for different reasons, so focus on different areas of massage. Expecting someone to give you something they do t enjoy is never going to be the experience you’re looking for.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I have extensive study in the eastern philosophy of healing and energy. My work is 100% about the connection and the exchange of energy that is shared, and is never just about a physical massage.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I started studying sports medicine and physiology close to 30 years ago and then moved into different modalities of massage. As long as my hands work, I will probably always be offering massage.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Clients who come to me based on the services I offer always walk away feeling uplifted, taller and at peace!
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Extensive training makes a person and “expert” in their field, but doesn’t make them successful. For me success is based on my ability to connect and create a difference in a person’s life.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I would definitely consider myself a successful masseur. Although massage has not always been a full time gig, my work in massage has taken me around the world and allowed me to work with thousands of people, bringing various levels of experience and healing to their lives.
