Benyou's Massage Interview
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I am very into fitness, so I love to workout in my free time. I also enjoy cooking, collecting antiques, and spending time with my little puppy!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Practice, practice, practice. After you do your training, find friends to practice giving a massage to so that you can develop a routine and discover what people like or don’t like.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Yes, I would miss being a masseur. I love making people feel better, and seeing my clients leave happy gives me a sense of joy!
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I do! I have a great client base, and as you can see from my reviews I have made a lot of people happy clients. I give a great massage, have a very welcoming and professional space, and aim to make all my clients happy customers.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I’m Persian, originally from Iran. After leaving my home country, I lived in Turkey for a couple of years before immigrating to the United States. I was previously a lifeguard and swim coach, which is where I gained my passion for helping people, leading me to learn massage.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I always want my clients to leave satisfied, feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. My goal is to always make my clients happy and to hopefully see them again in the future!
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a masseur to help people feel better! I gained a passion for helping people while being a lifeguard, and from my personal training and exercise, saw what a different body work and massage can make for people in their lives and fitness journeys.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I have been a masseur for six years, and plan to continue massaging for the foreseeable future.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel once in a while. I love living in Los Angeles and having access to everything that is here. Plus I have a little puppy and miss her whenever I travel!
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I want my clients to be happy with the experience overall, and to feel like they had a great massage. I want my clients to feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and that all the tension was released from their body.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I do remember my first client! I was a little nervous for my first few clients because no matter how much you practice on friends or colleagues, you are still a little nervous for your first client and wonder if you actually know what you're doing. But once you break that ice, it gets easier from there!
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
What distinguishes me from other masseurs is my background. I have lived around the world and experienced being immersed in and adapting to different cultures. That background enables me to easily interact with and respect anyone that is willing to be mutually respectful and polite.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Training, whether through a school, online course, or working with an existing therapist, is very important to be successful. Not only so that you understand how to tailor your massage to each client and not injure them, but also so that you don’t injure yourself as a masseur. Beyond training, practice makes perfect, so keep practicing on friends to keep your skills sharpened.
