BodyWorkJack's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
No but I started doing body work a million years ago to help pay my way through college. I decided to do it because I like the experience, I generally enjoy meeting new people and it feels good.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I wouldn't say "addictive," but I've taken breaks before but seem to find my way back. My former clients continue to message me and I do enjoy having fun experiences with regulars.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
After about 15 years of continuing to work and build a client base of regulars, I would definitely consider myself to be successful!
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I'm often told I have good energy. I do not do massage as my full-time job or because I have to do it—I do it because I like to do it. I think that helps me continue to enjoy the experience and be able to give my clients an enjoyable experience, as well.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want them to feel relaxed, satisfied and that their time and money was well spent.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I bike almost daily when the weather is nice and over 40 degrees. I love to spend time outside. Huge dog person. I like good food, good beer and good people.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Remember who you are, what you want, what you're willing to do and what you won't stand for.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I do this when I want and with whom I want. I do not make myself available to every single person who waves a $100 bill in my direction and because of that, I don't find myself over-worked or doing massages when I don't want to. If we connect, I know we'll both have a good experience that nobody has to fake.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I'm more of a homebody but I'm hoping to start traveling once this COVID situation is back to normal.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I really feel like the majority of my clients leave feeling satisfied and relaxed. I rarely have a client leave and never hear from them again.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I believe training is necessary but I don't believe a person has to be an LMT to have good touch and do good bodywork.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
For about 15 years. I will continue as long as I'm mentally and emotionally interested in doing so.
Why did you become a Masseur?
For the money, to be completely honest lol
