BryanTheMT'sย Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Sep 15, 2023

1
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- I would and I did. ;-)

2
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- I do. And I remember fumbling with my first client but he was very kind.

He's been a regular ever since.

3
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- I don't travel really. I *might* begin taking short trips here and there, but laws regarding massage in the US are funky so I'm not sure it would be doable for me!

4
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- Relaxed, whole and loved. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘

5
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- Training helps. Certainly practice helps too. Massage Patrons can be brutal in online forums. And they judge everything from the moment you open the door to the moment they leave. So, you have to *at least* be on point, otherwise your rep falls. I had a few bad reviews, mostly due to misunderstandings of what was being offered. But truth be told, you can't please everyone. So training in massage skills, as well as everything from communication to presentation is important.

6
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- I have been a full time masseur for close to 7 years. It's been an interesting ride and I'd love to continue it for years to come, in one capacity or other.

7
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- My style. It's very *flowy*
I also tend to work more on clients who other masseurs have turned away. I'm very open with who I work with. I only ask my patrons show up freshly showered and that inquiries are kept 'clean' and friendly.

8
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- Learn basic massage. Practice, practice, and practice some more. Then learn different modalities, some lighter, some deeper. Focus on developing communication skills, as during the massage you will be in a very intimate space with your patron. Learn how to *hold space* and meditate. Learn how to read the body and most importantly, discuss boundaries.

ALWAYS discuss boundaries and learn how to screen clients for your own safety.

9
Why did you become a Masseur?

- I wanted to help people in ways that a desk job at an insurance agency couldn't. I wanted to connect with other men who want to be touched for therapy, and get value out of it. Touch *is* medicine.

10
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- I'm an artist, writer, and I enjoy reading about different spiritualities. My tastes in movies and music can be eclectic too. :-) I'm also a lifelong student. Always something new to learn!

11
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- Lighter. Floaty. Like they just had a good meditation session. ๐Ÿ‘

12
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I see massage as medicine. (And not every treatment or interaction will be the same.) Sometimes the massage is rigorous, other times low and slow. Sometime therapeutic, other times more intimate. (But always connected.)

13
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- I have been able to make a modest living off of massage. In that regard, yes.

Success means many things for me. This is the type of business where you always have to level up, and if you don't you'll likely be left behind.
