ChristopherPDX's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
Fresh over from Australia I was run over whilst on my bicycle and my car ins covered the hospital visit. They prescribed a pain killer and I didn't want drugs so they approved massage. Went to the new LMT and he didn't know what he was doing. Since having massaged race horses after races back home I knew what I needed, so I got off his table and had him lay down and gave him a tutorial on what I needed. We traded back and he tried and did a little better, Hw called me that night and hired me, and that was my start.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Yes, I would miss it and have. I took a break to raise my kids bestowed upon me in the unconventional way and only did them sporatically. In relationships, sleep mates said I massaged them in my sleep so it does come natural to me anyways.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I use to be and intend on redoing everything full fledged again.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I am known to put others needs before mine. All my careers I have been the top customer service rep even as the boss. I am a human dad, plant dad and critter dad. I exercise my care for all in my day to day pursuits. I have many references lol.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I would hope all would feel fulfilled and want to return. Massage is a great way to show unconditional love from one to another.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to drive cars. I like and have a lot of unique cars. I do body modifications on some. I love parrots and all birds. I have some. I like to do home improvements. I like and use my trampoline. I recently planted 169 Thuja arborvitae around my property with existing arborvitaes except this species grows 2' a year making for a private yard. Great for being 'au natural' in dress as I like to be. I cycle, swim and kayak often in all seasons. I have 5 kayaks for me and guests to join as well as life jackets and gear.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I did it on animals that were injured from horse races destined to be put down and it saved them. I did it for study mates in pre vet med school and they said I was good. So I took a lot of art classes, memorized the body charts, paid the fee and challenged the test and continued getting experience and got licensed and kept going until kids came and let it lapse to focus on the 5.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Study how the body works. take some art classes on drawing bodies. Trade touch with friends. Visualize your day as a masseur/masseuse and remember that you cant always pick your clients by looks. Learn to love everyone. You will get fat, skinny, muscular, hairy, smoothe, amputees, and scared clients. Know health risks to you. Know your value. Can you love to serve? If you still want to, pick a school by checking out their graduation rate and how many students that start out, stick with it (is it boring teaching/teachers) then how many graduate and ask how many are practicing of that class. Seek out pros and ask them.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
The way I touch and my energy
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
My whole life, but officially 30 years off and on. Id keep going til I die
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I love to travel and if nothing is scheduled, I go
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Of course. You want to be able to help all types so the more knowledge you have the better you are equipped.
However, there are many masseurs/masseuses in embryo that have that natural touch.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I want my clients to feel fulflled
