HealingHandsNYC's Massage Interview
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Knowing that my clients are leaving me feeling better than when they came to me makes me feel incredibly successful
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Rejuvenated! Relaxed yet energized and ready to take on the day.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I’m very much a care giver by nature so I love being able use my hands to help my clients achieve ultimate relaxation and overall wellbeing.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to cook! Food is a major passion of mine!
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Absolutely. As in any trade knowledge of your craft is essential. Not only provide your clients with an optimal experience but also to make sure that they are safe and well taken care of.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
My first client was a close friend and crush of mine. Needless to say I was a little nervous. I really wanted to impress him so i took my time to make sure i was extra thorough. A little too much time... He was face down and had fallen asleep and when i went to turn him over i realized id spent almost 2 hours on his back! i panicked and unplugged my alarm clock so it looked like we lost power and continued the massage like everything was fine. By the time i finished it had been three hours! Thankfully he saw the extra 2 hours as a bonus and took me to dinner to thank me. We ended up dating for almost a year after that.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Thats exactly why i signed up for this site. I was a personal trainer and masseur but I change career paths. I always favored massage over training and missed it when i stopped. i missed the intimate connection and being able to use my hands to melt away some of the stress and tension my clients carried. the instant gratification of watching them leave lighter and happier became very addicting.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I'm definitely a people pleaser and caregiver by nature. I really enjoy giving a massage almost as much as getting one. You know how when you can taste the love in food? I think you can feel the love in a massage. I don't like to stick to a textbook routine I enjoy continuing to learn and integrate new techniques into my style all the time. Plus my studio is very cozy :)
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
That I understand it can feel very vulnerable coming to a masseur and laying on the massage table. I want them to know that they dont need to feel that way at all with me, that I'm genuinely and happily here for them. They're not just a job, theyre a person who is seeking out a massage for whatever particular reason and i'm honored to be trusted with taking care of them.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
get one of those hand grip exercisers
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I was a masseur for a little over 2 years when i was personal training. I think massage will always be a part of my life even if not professionally.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I love to travel! I love exploring new places, Learning about new cultures, trying different foods, seeing different parts of the world. I've been very fortunate in being able to travel quite a bit and I hope that I'm able to continue doing so for the rest of my life.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I like for them to not want to get off the table but when they do it's with a big smile on their face and with a calm, relaxed and rejuvenated demeanor. My favorite farewell is: "can't wait till next time!"
