JakeInWaikiki's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I vaguely remember, I remember being extremely nervous. I kept thinking over and over in my head about what I would say when I answered the door and what technique I would use. I was sure I would mess up and embarrass myself. However the massage went wonderfully and was the kick off to an awesome career! I actually still stay in contact with my first client!
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I would have to agree! Of course it’s addictive. It’s great money and you get paid to meet/hangout/bond with people from all over the world. I would definitely miss my career as a masseur.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I always think I could do better. However, as long as I’m able to pay my bills and enjoy life I consider myself successful.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I love to talk and meet new people. I never want anyone to hesitate If they have a question or simply want to initiate a conversation. I love engaging with new people about their lives and interests. I’m very approachable.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I’d like them to leave feeling relaxed, re-energized, and a desire to return. They should feel like they gained a new therapist as well as friend.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love going to the gym and of course the beach being that I’m in Waikiki. I also love going out to eat and experiencing the different restaurants. At home I’m kind of a nerd, I spend a lot of time coloring! But hands down my favorite daily activity is spending time with my miniature schnauzer l, Tama. He is my world!
Why did you become a Masseur?
I became a masseur because I love meeting people and had a natural ability to give a good massage. So I figured it was the best path for me.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
I would tell them to only do it if it’s truly something they enjoy. I find the clients can tell whether you want to be with them or if you wish you were doing something else.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I give a vibe of really loving what I do to my clients. They can tell I am in the moment and happy to be massaging them.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I’ve been doing it for 7 years and will continue to practice until I physically can’t.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel sometimes, it really just depends on what’s going on. If I’m able to bring my baby (dog) Tama, then I’m on board. Leaving him behind is something I won’t do.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Training to be a masseur, in my opinion, is never done. There is always more to learn. I am always all ears if someone has advice.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I want them to feel like they made me just as happy as I made them. I want them to want a repeat and to tell their friends. I also want them to feel like they gained not only a masseur but a friend. They should want to reschedule before they even leave and feel completely comftorable with me.
