Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
There I was in school starting my practical hours to graduate.
Shy and nervous at that stage of life as I simply went for it.
There was quite this arrogant student who was always boasting of their skill. He liked to say subtle things comments under his breath about my shyness, often to my embarassment.
When I first started working on someone I just closed my eyes, cleared my mind, and let my practiced skill flow.
Everything absorbed from books, class, practice and my own innate massage experience of giving massages to family and friends came together. I cleared any plan of “how” to do it and just was improvising.
Putting together all the learned skills like rudiments of a drummer in a rhythm, then slowly, seemlessly, and rhythmically creating a picture and a song on the persons body.
A song tailored the specific tension and bodily needs I had discussed with the client.
My reviews were 80% very glowing and specific. The other therapist who thought my shyness odd, now was extremely impressed.
Not that I cared, his shocked reaction was funny though. “Wow people are really liking your massage almost everyone is writing glowing reviews”.
I simply smiled.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Its the best passion. One of the most peaceful things in the world is when you get into the flow while working on someone.
And you sense the other person is going into there own kind of inner flow and peace, breathing smoother, not quite asleep, not quite awake. Peaceful.
Along with music that both I and the client enjoy and it is almost exactly like playing and instrument and performing an artistic dance of some sort. Just good the psychology and body of both client and therapist. Its win win.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Yes, yet I am not even close to where I want to be. I have chosen this as an art, discipline and another creative path in evolve through.
I am commited to lifelong learning and incorporating a wide range of bodywork, heathy lifestyle and varied approaches through out all my career.
