MIDEASTMAGICIAN's Massage Interview
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I've been a working healer for 13 plus years. You tell me. ;-P
Why did you become a Masseur?
I had a gift.. I massaged people from a very young age. It came so naturally to me. I'm also naturally nurturing - and care about others wellness. Coupled with schooling and advanced learned skill, intuition can be a very beneficial add on to this vocation.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Patience.. Stamina.. Acceptance. IF those THREE characteristics don't describe you, this may not be the gig for ya.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
I believe it's important to have necessary training. You KNEAD to know what you're doing. Human Anatomy aside, people come with injuries and every body type is so different, and specific, so it's helpful to have the knowledge to back up your skill.. Personally, I think it's best to go for continued education. Try new things, educate yourself on different modalities and techniques. Workshops are a SUPERB way to do so.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Hmmm.. ?! Moved. Def, moved. And, touched. And, healed. And, loved. I come from a place of true care for other humans, even when I don't necessarily have a prior connection to you. I spend a minimum of ninety minutes working you over and and healing is my main concern. I want my massages to be effective and for my client to leave my place having felt like their massage helped... beyond.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
Oh, I'm DEFINITELY a homebody. I like my space. I've created a soothing environment that keeps me calm, collected and at times introverted. I have begun to travel extensively for work and really enjoy making connections all across the country and globe.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I've been a therapist and physical healer for 13 years. I don't know. I struggle with that question, because a part of me feels like I could do this forever - and a part of me wants to explore my more creative side, and to do that, it'd be difficult to continue with massage full - time. But something tells me, I'm going to GIFT massages to people I love and care for - for the rest of my time here.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
My technique. I have gotten massages all over the world. I get two a week if and when I can.. on average. My body is my temple, and having done massage therapy for as long as I have, it's JUST AS important to take care of YOURSELF as it is your client. I've only ever come across ONE other therapist whose technique, (no kidding), head to toe- was just like mine. And it felt, surreal. As though, I'd left my body - and somehow guided him through the 100 min session. I MISS HIM.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I cook.. A LOT. (Well, I eat a lot), because I work out a lot. And as we ALL know, Massage therapy is HELLA PHYSICALLY TAXING. I hike, I read-like to stay informed, I draw. I work on puzzles. Museums.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I'd like them to feel like they've made a new friend and that they can count on that friend for their wellness.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I'm not as angry as I lOOK??? (:-s) #RESTINGBITCHFACE is real. I'm a teddybear. Nothing shocks me. You can ask me anything. You can tel me anything. It'll stay with me.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I wouldn't miss it.. bc I'd carry it with me, like a badge of honor. It's PART of who I am. And, it's the most amazing gift to be THAT SELFLESS, where you - day in and day out - give of yourself in that capacity.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
HIs name is Gil. We became INSTANT friends. And he has been my friend ever since. The day I decided to become a therapist was years before.. when, tired of RETAIL Management, I knew I needed to connect with people on a different level, and I always thought I had this intrinsic gift for gab, and love of all folks, all shapes, all sized, all colors, all languages.. it was in the cards!
