MJack's Massage Interview
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I would say so. I think it’s an incredibly integral element to health and fitness. So much of our day to day stress gets lodged in our muscles and body. I attribute my success as a masseur to being able to help people find relief from their day through a massage. I stay very busy and I’m incredibly grateful to every client that trusts me with their time and body.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Completely at peace. I know, for myself, that’s how I always feel after a massage. It’s definitely a form of escapism from the day to day.
Why did you become a Masseur?
It’s an interesting job! I think it’s fun to meet people and talk to them about why they need a massage and how I can help them. It also is so adjacent to the fitness industry that it felt inevitable for growth within my industry.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
I’d say the best thing you can do is go and get a massage. I think it’s tough to give your energy to something that you’ve never received. After that, it’s important to take a course and understand how the body functions to stay healthy and well.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
I hope other masseurs do this, but my energy is incredibly positive. It may not be that way all day, everyday but I sage and cleanse my space before and after every client. By helping them have a calm space, helps me.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
It was an amazing first experience. Definitely not my best massage but I walked away from that experience knowing I needed to work on my pacing and by relaxing myself, I could relax them.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
That I have a sweet tooth that starts in my toes and goes up to my head. Haha I have to really have some will power in the evenings.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes and no. That’s a hard question to answer. I’m in a course right now to become certified but that’s more for fun than anything. I have the knowledge from extensive personal training course. So, my initial career was very adjacent to massage therapy. If you have nothing I’m your history that relates to health and wellness, I would then suggest an extensive course.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I definitely would! I think it’s such a rewarding job and career. You get the most out of it when you give your all.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I’ve been a masseur for two years and I’m open to continuing as long as I’m able bodied to do so.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Anything outdoors. Reading and meditating are super important to me as well. Otherwise, I’m at the gym.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I love traveling! I’ve had the luxury of traveling the world a bit and that has been the most rewarding experience of my life. To witness and experience other cultures has singularly been the strongest influence in my life.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Completely calm and at peace. Like the day has melted away.
