MbJmk's Personal Masseur Interview
Last Updated: Aug 11, 2022

1
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?

- Better that when they arrived.
I want all to feel that James place is a safe place. I want customers to feel that I’ve made every effort to address any pain, or stress complaints discussed upon arrival.
I want all customers to be amazed and to want to come again for more of James touch.

Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?

- Now that I pretty much limit my services to men, I often crack a joke with newly arriving customers , as an icebreaker; I like to quip that I have the best job ever.... I say something like, “I mean think about it.... hot men arrive and I tell them to get naked and to lay down on my massage table, and they do” . Inevitably, we both laugh and agree that any job where beautiful men come to your studio and obediently and happily get naked for you, is about the best job a gay man could dream of… So addictive is a strong word, but ok, I’ll admit, I love my job and yeah I definitely would miss it and need my man-fix, if I retired from the business.

Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!

- Apparently I learn best by being thrown into the fire. This has been true my whole life and it’s how I learned my most rewarding job ever....

So in February of 2011, I relocated here in San Diego from Boston, looking to start my new career. I answered a Craigslist ad posted by a local yoga studio owner and massage therapist who broke her wrist at about the same time her Ill-concieved Groupon campaign queued up over 75 cranky, impossible to satisfy, entitled massage customers. In desperation she offered me hands on training and 75 customers to practice on. The challenge was to never let on that I was still learning and that they were my guinea pigs, so to speak.
That first customer (a woman) was so pleased after her 90 minutes massage by me, that she hugged me and even stuffed a couple more $20s in my shorts pocket. I couldn’t believe that I pulled it off.
It was that knowledge exchange and hands on experience that became my 90 minutes massage that I proudly offer today. I have made it my own.... The skills and knowledge learned have served me very well to constantly deliver a professional, quality massage, bringing relief, restoration and rejuvenation to many happy customers.

4
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?

- So far I've been a homebody and really have enjoyed my life in beautiful San Diego. More and more I find myself traveling, as a masseur. I’m learning a lot seeing new sight and meeting interesting new people, like you. And so the journey begins.

5
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?

- Amazed. Upon arrival. I ask them to explain what they want me to address with my massage treatment... my treatment will focus on their issues and I strive for an overwhelming success and that they are feeling better upon departure than when they arrived... Amazing is a word I frequently hear!!!!

I also try to give suggestions for continuation of the therapy themselves and until our next scheduled massage. Suggestions include stretching techniques, hydration ... etc.

6
Why did you become a Masseur?

- I believe whole heartedly in the holistic approach to health and healing. Upon retirement and completion of certain financial obligations, I pursued my interest in healing through touch.

7
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?

- I believe in Karma. I am honest and sincere, and I expect the same from others. Massage prospective customers should know that I try to make sure that I endeavor to share the intimacy of the massage experience with good guys and filter out the few that not so good guys.... it’s a two way street... respect, manners, humility, honesty, integrity and attitude , all matter... even more than a pretty face... in fact, way more.

8
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?

- I've been a professional masseur since I met my divorce related financial obligations and semi-retired 2011 when I relocated to San Diego from Boston. I will be massaging naked men as long as I feel the passion to touch somebody.

9
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?

- Training is definitely a must. Where and how one acquires their skills and knowledge is up to each individual.

10
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?

- It's always my goal to make each client feel better upon departure than whe they arrived. Massage is a give and take. I give a lot of muscle, sweat, and thought to each massage I give. I love to know that I've made my clients day a better one, it fuels my energy to know that my hands, heart and skill have been restorative and effectively helped whatever ache, pain, sore muscle, stress ... issue they told me about upon arrival...

11
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?

- Make your massage come from that special place inside of you. We all learn the basics, the strokes, moves and techniques. They are essential, no doubt. However, I encourage you to add your special you to your routine. Don't be afraid to deviate from basic text book moves Color outside the lines. What makes it yours is your special touch. Embrace it. It's you touch, your style, your passion that your customers feel. It's what your retun and become you long-term clients.

12
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?

- Paddleboarding, spending time with my dog Beau, exploring, hiking, being naked whenever possible

13
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?

- It makes me so, so happy to hear my customers unsolicited appreciation of how much better I’ve made them feel ... whatever their complaint was upon arrival, I make every effort to make it better for them.... It makes me feel valuable and wonderful to know that I’ve made someone’s day a better one.
