RelaxU's Massage Interview
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Yes it's addictive, but in a spiritual way. It does take a toll on me physically, on the hands and back. If I do retire from massage it will most likely be because my body can't take it anymore. But until that days comes I will continue to feed my spiritual self to feed this positive addiction.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I do. It was a bit choppy, and unrehearst. It was decent but half way through it I knew what I had to do before I massaged anyone else. Choreograph a routine to cover the entire body at an even balance. So that was when it began, and my style of deep and sensual massaging has been evolving ever since.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I work out a lot and do some traveling. I take care of you boy (dog & best friend), Jake.
Then of course...
meetings, meetings, meetings.
Why did you become a Masseur?
It just came naturally for me. I exchange, or connect very well with people through the sense of touch. I sometimes think it found me instead of me finding it. It's something I know that I'm good at.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Give it the way you'd expect someone to give it to you.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
My first massage course I took in college (1992). Originally, I set out to be a physical therapist. In college I took a massage course to educate myself about the body. I never pursued massage for income until about 3 yrs ago. I found that I loved it and plan to do it for 5 (or so) more years. It's fulfilling for me.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
Traveling huge. I'm playing with the idea of setting up shop somewhere (probably Europe) and seeing what kind of business I could get Traveling abroad. We will see.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I do. I've built a regular local clientel, and have numerous repeat encounters with people who visit the area regularly.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
I'm intuitive and usually can pin point where they hold their tension.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Satisfied. If the massage is off (no connection), I usually am aware of it right away. I do my best at turning it around. I'm successful most of the time.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
My style. Moderate to deep, but sensual pressure. I incorporate some stretching and pressure aimed on specific pressure point throughout the body.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
It helps but I think the key I having a natural gift to massage. Some have it, some don't.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
If never had anyone leave unhappy. The feedback had always been positive.
