SensualTherapy's Massage Interview
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes it is if you're truly going to be a Masseur. I need to not only know the fundamentals of a good quality massage but being a Masseur requires great people skills in communicating and answering questions, explaining my massage approach and then making the client feel comfortable and giving them the sense that they are in good hands while in my care. Massage is a great way to connect with another person, and the exchange of touch and conversation during your session makes for an enriching experience.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I want my client to feel as though they're leaving our massage session having gotten what their body/mind/spirit needed. I have heard "That was amazing" many times and it truly never gets old to know that my client had such an enjoyable experience as I worked on him.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
First, study up on your massage techniques. Every man enjoys a Masseur's ability to find those sore/tight spots and work out the tension.
Second, have a clean and neat massage room. A clean and organized environment will help your client feel more at ease about their surroundings.
One more tip - listen to your clients' feedback while you're working. Read body language, listen for sighs of joy and grimaces of pain. Learn to adapt your massage as you work to make it the best massage possible for your client. They know what's best for their body.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I'm a big gardener and landscaper so that is a huge passion of mine.
I love to be active outdoors in general - walking, running, biking, hiking, kayaking and pool time.
I love to camp and enjoy visiting clothing-optional campgrounds as well as beaches.
Winter trips to South Florida really warm my soul during the cold dark northern months.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
Yes, I do consider myself a successful Massuer. I have 11 years experience in massage therapy. Over that time, I've had the good fortune to work on many men as I've honed my craft.
I have helped many men get relief from neck, shoulder, back, hip, glute and leg pain and tightness. I have helped men with inflammation issues in their bodies to experience relief from the pain.
I hear "That was amazing! I feel so much better!" or "Thank you, I really needed that!" and I know I've accomplished my goal of helping my client relax.
To me, being a successful Masseur is all about having the necessary massage skills, caring about my clients and their outcomes and being invested in giving my clients the best experience possible. I have worked hard to achieve this, so I consider myself a very successful Masseur.
