SheldonKinney's Massage Interview
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
Though I have been doing massage for many years, I underwent formal training in 2018. My first experience as a masseur was with an older gentleman who had just finished a stressful week. My method of using hot towels on the back of my guest helps to ease those tense spots. When this is followed up with massage, the stress and tension melts away. I had made a one time guest into a returning guest. That was when I knew massage was my calling.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
I look forward to setting up my studio each morning and preparing for the sessions I have scheduled for the day. Massage is as therapeutic for me as it is for the guest I am serving.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I do. Not because of my thoughts on the subject, but on the comments of those I massage daily.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
Refreshed, relieved, rejuvenated, and rested. I enjoy having my guest sit for a moment following their massage with a cold beverage. This allows them to re-center themselves as oftentimes, guest are a bit unsteady when the massage is completed.
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
Relaxed and relieved. My goal is to remove all the tension and stress and physical contact through the massage is a wonderful way to ease stress and tension.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
It is necessary and continuing education is also important. I am constantly reviewing literature which will benefit those I work with.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
My main hobby would be self care. I work out at the gym seven days a week. Bodybuilding is more of an addiction to me then a hobby.
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
As a bodybuilder, you develop exceptional upper body strength which benefits both the client and myself when performing deep tissue.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I have not traveled as of yet. I prefer my spa as I have access to heated towels and heated massage oils. But, I would be open to visiting other areas if enough men wanted to experience my services in those cities.
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I started just over 6 years ago and hope to continue as long as my body and soul allow.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
At 60 years young, I have been working the last two years on building a stronger and better me. I am competing this spring in the St. Pete Brawn on the Beach National Qualifier for Bodybuilding May 2024. When I set my mind on a goal, I will not stop. I treat the massage service the same way. I give each session the best possible service to ensure my expectations as well as the clients are fully met. Book a session with me and experience total relaxation.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Talk to your guest to ensure you understand their needs and expectations for the service they are about to receive. Always maintain a simple dialog to be certain all necessary areas of concern are being covered.
Why did you become a Masseur?
I love the exchange of energy between the guest and myself. Sometimes, depending on the type of massage, the exchange can be very intense. To know that I have the ability to change someones day from mediocre to amazing is a skill that I treasure.
